I'm gonna say that I've never heard of it, and alot of things can happen to a truck over 32 years. That said, I also know there were regional packages, state wide packages, and sometimes even dealer promotional vehicles...so who knows. I don't know if this truck is one of those deals/promotions...but if it were I'd probably lean closer to something done by a dealership. Might be worth contacting Ford to request a free 'build sheet' and see if it says anything about it.

Yea, I figured it mighta been done at the dealership
cause i saw a dodge dakota not too long ago with
the exact same emblem and stripes on it.

Wish I knew where to find the kit at, if I ever decide
to paint old yeller a different color that emblem would
shore look nice on it.

Off topic, but I slaved the front driveshaft off the 79 in the
pic and put it on my 78, but i had to drill holes for the u-bolts
on my 78 (it had studs instead of u-bolts) to connect the front
of the driveshaft. Would that have been a differece in the
year/plant or did it vary truck to truck?

If you really want that emblem, I'd just have it made somewhere locally. It's tough enough finding tape stripe packages for vehicles that Ford mass produced, much less something that may or may not be a dealer item, or something a PO did. Not to mention, if it is something you could find NOS, the decals would be so brittle, chances are it wouldn't stay together by the time you got it on the truck.

You can't be off topic, it's your thread and about your truck...haha. As for the studs, I can't speak on that...but there were a few different dshafts available/changes between those years. I've got the lengths, u-joint size and what came with what set up somewhere.

Oh ok, I know my papaw slaved alotta parts for
the 79 off an ol 3/4 ton he had, I think the only thing
original about the truck is the body and the frame.

He wants me to restore the 79, but I
see it as my own little parts store for
my 78:devil:

Ben,

From what I've read, Ford is no longer giving away free build sheets for 1967/79 vehicles. They are now charging a fee for them under a new program.

Since all this info comes from Marti, might as well get it from him and pay his fee, because Marti has ALL of it, Ford has NONE of it.

Original NOS tape stripes will not be brittle, they will be NFG. Over time, heat dries out the adhesive, so there is no way...none, that the backing can be peeled off from the stripe.

Pal of mine paid 700 bucks for a NOS stripe kit for his 1978 Ranchero GT. I warned him, but he said the ebay seller said it was OK.

It looked OK, but when he went to peel the backing off, portions of the stripe came along with it. So...not only was he SOL, but out 700 bucks...plus shipping.

$700 ay?

Can't imagine what a custom stripe kit would
cost.

I googled image for the "Road Rogue" stickers,
didn't come up with diddly squat. I know theys
allotta other stripe kits out there, but I havn't
found one that I like as good as this one.

With vinyl wraps becoming so popular these days, tape/stripe kits are alot more reasonable than one may think. I wouldn't imagine emblems such as yours would be too expensive at all. Another avenue would be just to have a stencil or pattern made and have it painted on. Personally, I prefer paint to stickers anyway.

Hadn't thought about paintin the stripes and emblem Ben.
Sounds like a good idea.

I'm gonna eventually (no time soon) have to repaint
the entire truck anyway, whoever had it painted previously
didn't do a good enough prep job with the body beforehand.
They puttied a few holes in the panels and now the putty has dried
and starting to break loose along with the paint.:headbang:

Gonna go with a darker color when i repaint, probaly a dark blue
(non-metalic) or the original green it came with (since the interior
is still that color.

Would you use a clearcoat on the solid color paints, or no?
I know a clearcoat helps preserve the paint, but it looks BAD
when it starts to peel. And Ol Yeller is gonna see some rough
treatment throughout deer season (read: gonna get scratched
and dented a little:D )

I personally would, but it depends on how many layers and lay quality. If you're going to have the Maaco cheapy done, then no...if you know what you're doing or have a reputable paint guy do it...the clear coat shouldn't be an issue for a good long time.

Those stripes could be SOOOO easily replicated in vinyl. And if you decide you don't want them down the line, just peel em right off! There is a lifetime to vinyl, though.

Cheerwine wrapped my little bro's boat, it sees the water probably 3 weekends a month, 8 months out of the year...it's been the same wrap for 4 3 years now...still looks pretty good...yellowing a bit on white spots, but I think that's more due to the water color than anything.
