Going to try and get the 77 to the shop tomorrow and get to work cutting the firewall and floor out of it and the plan is to have 99 firewall and floor welded up to the 77 by the end of January..I know some will frown on this and believe me i am a die hard 70's fan but with parts starting to dwindle down and fuel sucking the way it does these days I have decided to try and modernize an older truck so it still looks cool but has updated drivetrain and all the creature comforts of the newer vehicles and to have the get in turn key starts instead of the carb pumping cold start mornings.

That is a wild project. I'm interested to see what you have up your sleeve.

The chassis has a 4.6 ltr in it but i was thinking of going with the 5.4 instead.I hope to get the cab off and into the shop by monday night.

It is a cool project, but why? The 70s trucks are stouter.

They are but they are also out dated by todays technology and everything on the 1999 chassis is designed for that running gear and fuel injected engine and it's much easier to fab in the firewall and floor from the 99 into the 77 for the simplicity of plug and play and the reliability of the 99 with the old school bad $$$ 70's look still intact. I have read alot and looked at the conversions done with these old trucks and alot of them look like hack jobs, example would be cutting out sections of the fire wall and floor pan and fabing in pieces of sheet metal, to me why not use the newer trucks under belly, it was designed for it and if done right looks factory , and if this turns out as good as i think it is i have a powerstroke waiting for my 79 extra cab 4x4 and i will have to find a newer donor truck for it. And the cool factor, a 77 extra cab 4x4 on a 6" lifted 1999 IFS suspension, you cant tell me you wouldn't have to check that out...lol anyways that is my train of thought and also parts are getting harder and harder to find for these rides and the fuel isn't getting any better either. :)
