76 motor mounts in 77

Hey all, havent been on in a while, due to working 2 jobs and trying to live it up during my last summer break.

Im about to buy a 76 f150 4x4 for parts for my blue 77, which lost the engine and tranny in june. This 76 has a 460 built to about 550 horses, a 4 speed transmission and 205 t-case that have both been beefed up, 9 inch out back with tight limited slip and one ton 35 spline axles, 3/16 steel driveline with 1 ton u-joints, d44 up front with limited slip thats really tight, ~6" lift and 35's.

My plan is to take all the goodies and put them on my blue one. The 76 came with a 360. Mine has a 400.

My question is, will i run into motor mount issues, or will the 460 and the mounts bolt right up to my frame? I need to check, but i believe he used an adapter motor mount, like this one

http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-20903_429_460_conversion_motor_mounts_360_390_1967-76_4wd.htm

So will I just take my old mounts and towers off, and bolt the existing one from the 76 on? or will i have to order new mounts?

So are you asking if the modified 360 motor mounts will work for the 400? I can't say I have experience with this...but I'm gonna go with now. Next...it may just be me trying to over simplify it...but if you're gonna swap everything over to the 77...why not just do a body swap over to the 76?

76 is a short box, 77 is long box. The 76 is beat up pretty bad, and the wiring is rather scary. He basically took a beat truck and put new suspension and drivetrain in. He didnt care about anything else, because it was strictly for offroad. One day, blue will be as pretty as your red... Someday :headbang:

Since Ford didn't offer a 460 with 4WD until 1983, there are no factory engine supports (aka towers, stands, perches) that will work with a 1973/79 4WD.

The only 1973/79 F100/350 2WD 460 mounting parts that will work are the two right/left brackets that fit betwen the block and the rubber insulators (D3TZ6030A & D3TZ6031A) and the two rubber insulators (D3TZ6038A) themselves.

These Ford parts are obsolete, however.

L&L offers a engine mounting kit to install a 460 into a 1973/79 4WD.

I knew they never offered a 460 in a 4wd. I guess, to simplify my question, can i take the mounts and towers from the 76 that fit the 460, and put them in the 77 and mount the same 460? Or is there a difference in the frame that would not allow this?

The rubber insulators will work as will the right/left brackets.

I dunno about the supports because I dunno what the PO used.

Are they modified factory supports or something from the aftermarket sector?

I believe, but not entirely sure, that they are aftermarket. Ill see if i can look tomorrow at it.

You may get away with it if you have a rear sump oil pan and pump pickup.

Here is what the frames/mounts look like from 73-79 460 4x2 to 83 460 4x4

They get decent reviews over on FSB...but they say the rubber starts going down hill around year 6-7.

Hmmm. they were lookin to be pretty good. any suggestions? i would prefer to have a bolt up fit, like the jbg ones
