73 f100 Build

RED352, I also have a '73 F100 thats undergoing a frame off resto. I have a build thread going in my "other life", when I get some time I'll start a build thread here too.
BTW I went with a new tank. The one that was in my truck was pretty well shot. The fuel in it was about 10-12 years old and when I drained the 8-9 gallons out it looked like varnish but the truck would still start and run.
Looking forward to watching your progress.
Good luck and have fun.

Got a question for you guys. In time im goin to straight axle my 73. But my buddy has a 4 speed transmission/transfer case from a 80 model 460. I have a 390. three speed, so i should be able to bolt my bell housing to his 4 speed right?

Your buddy does not have anything 4WD related from an 80 460, you wanna know why?

Because...1983 was the first year Ford offered the 460 with 4WD and/or a manual trans...F350's only.

And, only 1980/82 E250/350's were available with 460's. The largest available engine in 1980/82 F150/350's was the 400, 302 in 1980/83 F100's.

Sorry, meant to say 460. out of his 80 model truck. Im sure it wasnt the original motor. But that didnt answer my question. Will a 4 speed transmission out of a 460. bolt up to my 390.?

Yes and no...as it depends on what the swapped into a 1980 truck 4 speed transmission from what year (?) 460 is.

If a Ford passenger car 4 speed top loader, truck: NP435, T-18, or T-19...yes. If something else, no.
