My buddys got a 351w out of a 1990 f250 for fairly cheap i was thinkin about grabin it off him. Would my tranny swap off my 300 CID? Or would i have to get a new tranny and would there be many other big changes i would have to make to swap this engine in?

Tranny bell is the same. You may have to change the motor mount towers possibly, plus you will want the whole engine harness and computer.

About the computer...
Your truck and the "parts" truck both auto or both manual?

I swapped in a manual EEC from a '90 F250 and the '91 Bronco's
solenoid actuated vacuum switches were a different resistance
and so had to get that stuff off the '90 to go with it. The EEC
was throwing a fit. ;)

My trucks a manual and the other ones an auto so thats definately good to know. Did you have any other problems because of the switching manual to auto?

Try the auto-EEC out and see what you think of it? :)
Read where they hang the idle when you want to shift.
Others claim that can be fixed tho. {shrug}
I wouldn't know. :/

----------------------

In my case, both the '91 Bronco and '90 F250 parts-truck had 351w's.
For less money I could have bought a '91 F250 with a 460 and ZF and
it had Traction Lok too. :) Went to look at it because the kid thought
it was a 351w, at least he had the ZF part right. ;)

Engine Electronic Controller, the computer, located in the passenger kick panel if memory serves correctly. The flywheel is specific to the motor, if you have it coming from an automatic, to an automatic, it is fine. Manual to a manual you transfer the whole clutch assembly typically.

Besides all the hard parts that Jergen linked above you need a 28oz flywheel that matches your transmission, you can't use the I6 version because it is neutral(0oz) balance. You also need a 5.8 engine wiring harness and EEC from a truck with either a manual or C6 automatic, if the donor truck has one of those tranmissions you're good but if it has the E4OD you can't use either.

Yes, you will need the proper flexplate for the 351W to go auto.

1) 28oz flywheel...
2) can't use the I6 version because it is neutral (0oz) balance.
3) 5.8 engine wiring harness...
4) EEC from a truck with either a manual or C6 automatic,
-if the donor truck has one of those tranmissions you're good
-but if it has the E4OD you can't use either.
x2 but I've read where an auto/E4OD EEC can be "made to work"
but I'm not so sure I believe it's the best way to go, so x2. :)
"works" might have qualifications that keeps it from being "good"?

We keep throwing "can'ts" at you but they aren't really that big
of a deal if you want to do this swap. :)

------------------------------

#3 is almost always thrown-in on a v8-to-v8 MAF-conversion and
in my weird-case, I'd rather re-wire mine than get/buy one from a
Mustang.

But in your case, you can see how rewiring the i6 engine harness
prob'ly wouldn't turn out so good, even this tinkering-fool would
get a v8-SD* engine harness, especially since it'd hook right up
with no re-wiring (not converting to MAF). ;)

*SD = Speed Density, as opposed to...
MAF = Mass Air Flow

Just a couple years ago I didn't know what an EEC was either! LOL :)

the 300 has 360000km on it and is getting tired and the 351w has 180000km and he only wants $175 for it but if i have to buy all that other stuff its not really worth it i guess :(
