  1. Finally Done....

Well...my wife found the original paperwork, and I bought the truck with plow in Alaska in 1995 for $5000. So I figure almost twenty years of use and a $400 paint job with money left over is a good enough thing. Still gonna miss it this winter though. Have to pay for a snow removal...
  2. Finally Done....

Thanks for all the kind words. The guy who bought it is a 19 yr old kid who talked his dad into fronting him the extra cash (he had $4500 saved up).. After they got back from the test drive, he said if his son abused it, he'd confiscate it and use it to plow his LONG driveway. Glad to see it...
  3. Finally Done....

Yeah, that's what I thought. Shoulda held out for more
  4. Finally Done....

Gone in Sixty Seconds...Sorry, guys. I haven't been on the forum since yesterday. I parked it in front of the high school in Truckee (local sales lot...) and got a call as soon as I got back from parking it. Met the kid and his dad, they took it for a spin, offered me $5500 an it's GONE...
  5. SMOG HELP NEEDED!! Those versed in CA smog chime in please!

Well....mine is a 79 400, not a 460, but last test it was a "gross polluter'. What I did to make it pass was (it's a Motorcraft 2 bbl 2150 carb) disconnect and plug the vacuum advance. Set the timing at 0 deg. Back the two mixture screws out 3 1/2 to 4 turns. Set the idle speed fast (just...
  6. Finally Done....

Maybe so...but then again, no solenoids to fail, simple operation and all it has to do is lift and tilt. I like it better than the solenoid operated ones because you can "feather" the controls to keep it from slamming down and scaring all the neighbors. Plus only one solenoid for the pump...
  7. Finally Done....

Good...wasn't sure where to start. Plow alone is worth 4K. Hopefully someone will buy it who can really use it. Been a great truck for me. I used to go around the neighborhood after a snowstorm and pull people out, then plow their driveway for no charge. Once in a while they'd force $20 or...
  8. Finally Done....

Here's a pic with the plow. Not listed yet...just parked it in front of the high school for the weekend. Asking 6K. 51k miles because it was only used as a plow truck Very little highway driving. 400 engine, c6 trans, add a leaf springs, new tires, stereo with amps, etc. Runs...

Not listed yet...just parked it in front of the high school for the weekend. Asking 6K. 51k miles because it was only used as a plow truck. Very little highway driving. Bought it in Alaska, and brought it with me when I moved to Tahoe. I'm the second owner. 400 engine (all stock), c6...
  10. Finally Done....

De-rusted and painted the 79. Now on the auction block. I hate to let it go, but I have no room. Bought a new truck and fifth wheel, so stable is overcrowded. Had fun with the body work.
  11. FRONT add-a-leaf spring install

I added a front set of leafs because my 79 F250 is a plow truck, and the front end sagged quite a bit when raising the plow. Figured I'd do the rear too, to keep it level when the plow was off. Added about 2" in height and no sag. The only real hassle was getting the U-bolt nuts loose. I had...
  12. SMOG HELP NEEDED!! Those versed in CA smog chime in please!

I go through this every 2 years. Always a hassle. I see that your is a "gross polluter." That's BAD. Mine was the same. Now you have to go to a Gold Shield station for a test. No free retest at the same place unless it s Gold. To make a long story short. Million helped me a LOT! vacuum...
  13. Heat Vent defrost blower

Have you checked to see if your ducts are full of leaves, pine needles, etc? The louvers in front of the windshield have no screen to keep crud out and they can't be removed. The gunk slides down both sides into the space at the rear of the front wheel wells, where it eventually clogs any...
  14. Happy ending to a LONG story...

Wrong diagramThat's not the right diagram. The one you posted on 12/24/11 is. The vacuum advance was connected to a 4 port VCV that has the vacuum from the bottom of the carb port E (full manifold vacuum) going to the vacuum advance through a restrictor when cold. After warmup, it bypassed...
  15. Happy ending to a LONG story...

Well, here I am back with the good news. I PASSED!!!! Allowed CO 200, measured 20, allowed HC 250, measured 40.Here's what I did to finally get it so low. Rearranged the vacuum line to the thermactor to manifold vacuum instead of ported vacuum so that the air pump is supplying air all the...
