There is a small button in the bottom of the lock cylinder that you press on. You have to turn the key slightly towards the ON position. Then it slides right out. If you have to get a flashlight and lay under the column so you can see what your doing
Sounds to me that inside the column where the ignition siwtch meets the lock cylinder the gears are not timed correctly. So even though you turn the key to the off position the ignition switch is still on
Ditto on pull the engine... the pickup tube hangs way low so getting it out and not bending the snot out of the pan because of the sealant they use is tough. Perfect time to seal up the dipstick tube while its out
Check fuses. IF fuel heater shorts out wait to start light wont come on and glow plugs wont get juiceYou can unplug the fuel heater and put a new fuse in and everything should work just fine
I have personally always noticed on the 3 different powerstrokes i have had that 2000 RPM is the sweet spot for fuel economy. when you run over that regardless of auto or manual trans the mileage goes downhill fast.Very hard to run down the interstate at 2000 rpm's without getting run over though

1: stock
2: high idle
3: HWY MPG
4: Tow
5: Hot Tune
6: Extreme Hot tune.
