03 7.3 stumble

My 2003 7.3 stumbles whie driving all day or never that day & ocassionally tries to die when decelerating, worse when engine cold. changed Fuel Filter, recalled cps changed . Any good suggestions - no code set

Welcome fjr!!! I know you said the cps was replaced, but when your 7.3 stumbles, do you lose or does the tach go nutzo? That indicates the cps as they share that sensor....

the tach bobbles with the change in engine speed but doesn go wild and is slow to settle as th engine dies. I didn't notce any black or white smoke. Yesterday added 1/2 gal of lowes additive ran add day no bobble . started next morning didn't know it it would get out of driveway ran like like crap for 5 miles I even tried locking out overdrive to keep engine rpm up - didn't make any difference.

before I start throwing parts @ it

I am looking to change

1. Map sensor
2. another CPS
3. clean drain fuel system change / check hoses
4. Fuel Pump in tank
5. check / change injectors

Take a good look at the "pass through" connectors on each valve cover. Bad ones, they are, for loose connections.

did i miss something here or had Toddly-blow-it-up become the resident butt kisser?

had a mechanic loo k @ it and diagnosed a cam position sensor. found the federal recall took it to the dealer and without any diagnosis refused to put one in- it's already had one changed.

dont know if you fixed it yet but I had to replace my valve cover gasgets, which have the pass through connectors in them. Before replacement sounded like i was running on 6 instead of 8. Could also be injector harness inside cover, be carefull if you go in messing around because the connector tabs get brittle over time and can snap off easily --- learned from experience.
