yah but the ole pre acert cats could still turn 4 grand and hold...i know of a few signature 600 cummins that have turned 6 grand for (i think) some where in the 3 year range, the dyno room at cummins is freakin awsome..they have never been shut down...the oil is constantly being changed via a massive purge system and so is the coolant thats kept at a constant 180 degrees...

It would be even more awesome if it were turning top torque at that rev for that many years, lol... what kind of load are they running on it?

When I was in my late teens, I worked in a quarry in Virginia. Our drilling rigs ran the old 8v71 Detroits. My first day there, I loved the sound of em. After a couple of 12 hour shifts listening to those straight piped beasts screaming along at around 3 grand all day, I really learned to hate em.

My dump truck is the cummins 290. It doesn't sound much different, lol...
That ol thing will make ya deaf and beat you up while it DOES it,

I honestly don't know how you guys do it. That sound is almost as bad as my ex yapping.

i know that feeling. i would rather listen to my puppies yelp all day long than 5 minutes with my ex.
It was the dr pepper buzz that she couldn't stand!

I still have to listen. And she's called herself my future ex, once in a while.

They wound the signatures up till the valves started to float then backed em off a bit...right at 6 grand...just seein how long they will last with just fresh fluids to them...
As far as the load goes, there is a fleet of trucks that run 24 hours a day 6 days a week in the mountains up in the north west loaded to some where in the 180,000lb range....on sunday they come in and have the oil and coolant changed and new drive tires put on...
oh yah and their all cranked to over 1000hp..and around 3000ft/lbs of torque...:flames:

What kind of tires they running that have to be changed every 10,000 miles?

theyve ran everything...they just wear them out that quick pullin that much weight around on the mountains...i think they put new clutches in every month or so to...they are cummins/paccars true testers....

:) Want me to answer that one? :rolling laugh:

 1000HP/3000Lb-FT!! MATT!! Can you squeeze one of these in a Super Duty and tweak it with an SCT tune????

You wouldn't WANT to... That's about as high as you dare take a big diesel these days. remember, you're talking about slugs as big as your head (well, almost) and Rods the size of your arm. That's a lot of heavy metal flying around at those revs!

Sorry I'm a little behind on this thread...... When I was up north we had a Cat 3516 completely self destruct. The truck was doing about 45 mph down a haul ramp when the speed sensor on the transmission got wiped out. Cat had failed to put any logic in the TCM for such a condition.... Needless to say, the transmission speed sensor said 0 speed, TCM said 1st gear will be just fine. The last overspeed alarm we pulled off the VIMS said 4200 rpm. By that time I'm sure there were already pieces on the pit floor. Cracked the block diagonally from front to rear, shattered the crank and cams; lifted 13 heads enough to see daylight in between the block deck and the head.... There were pieces for half mile on pit floor..... Scared the living hell out of the driver

High rpms on big engines = very much bad :spank:

And that would be why the "automatic" trannies they are using now are not such a good idea... too many monkeys out there behind the wheels any more, the professionalism that once existed in the driving profession is waning...

Stigler, OK
I just want to see the picture of the truck with a 3516 in it.
