it would be awesome if there was a mobile, stripped down skin for browsing from a phone/pda. no avatars, skins, embedded images, or extra stuff.

googling, "mobile alabama" seems pretty popular

even better would be browser detection, so i had my regular skin on PC, but on the phone i would have the mobile version. some articles talked about the code that was needed to do that - found them through google

No clue what that is, but if my cell phone starts shedding its skin like a snake...it is going in the nearest trash can.

i'm talking about just a stripped down version of the site. text and links only. not only compact, but low bandwidth. only image i would want is a "view first unread" next to a new link.

it'd be cool to have embedded images that show up in the forum with IMG tags be turned into html links. that way they're not trying to load while i view the page, but if i want to see them, i click the link

if this happens, here are my suggestions
-"view first unread" button needs to be larger (hard to hit on a small screen)
-it would be awesome if embedded images (everything on the site with an img tag) would show up as a hyperlink.

if there is any legwork or anything i can do to make this happen, i would be more than happy to help

I'm gonna bump this thread now that I've got an iPhone. An iPhone skin would be really cool Ryan. Is it doable?

i don't even have an iphone and i just go into my usercp and cut out the sigs and pics etc and change the threads per page to 5 and browse away from my stupid little scoop. a mobile version would be AWESOME though because i wldn't have to go through all the steps of changing my user options everytime i got on just to make it possible to browse...

Unless vBulletin has browser detection-- I think FTF would just have to have something like http://www.fordtruckfanatics.com/m (for mobile) or something like that... Not sure.

Well the problem with just adding another skin is that I'd have to keep changing my skin everytime I switch between my computer and my iPhone. Would be nice if it had browser detection and it would change it automatically.

no not really the url for each skin is different. Just enter the url for the mobile skin in your phone and use it. it shouldn't change in your PC

I think you're mistaken Randy... The skins are installed into vBulletin and in order to switch between them you use the pull-down menu at the very bottom left hand corner of this webpage. You can see what I mean if you click it and pull down to the Blacksmart skin. It would work the same way except there'd be a third option for an iPhone skin.

That is assuming that vBulletin doesn't have browser detection capability.

I think it will work this way. If not there is a browser detection addon for VB addon

I don't have a web compatable phone because the service isn't avaible in my area yet.

that would be fine if following those links (on my phone) didn't change the style for my profile every time i login.

although...if i changed my PC bookmark to include the regular styleid, and my phone to have the mobile styleid, it could work. ...browser detection would still be ideal

o, and just another vote for if we do get a mobile/iphone skin to find something with the "view first unread" links. i'm not sure life could go on without them
