I know it's a little late to be updating this thread but I'll share the end result. The truck did end up stranding me with a no-start condition. The new thing the cluster was doing now was instead of showing the mileage it would just show a series of dashes "------" which I believe means...
The last month before finals in a college is not the best time to do automotive projects..... Anyways, I was finally able to track down a wiring diagram for the instrument cluster and I believe I've come up with a way to do some testing. From what I can tell there are 3 power wires that come...
2002 Ford F150I'm having an issue with the instrument cluster in the truck. There will be times when it operates fine without issues then it will act the way it does in the video below.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slcj1M9fyfkIt will do this on it's own at time whether I'm in motion or at...
I know this is over 2 months old, but I love little "quizzes" like this so I'll take a shot.Do you have power coming out of the BOO switch when closed? Do you still have power when it goes to S231 (I'm having a hard time seeing that number specifically)?
I may have an opportunity to sell my truck in it's current condition for a good price. I'm heavily considering getting a fusion in its place. I've driven one about 6 months ago and liked it but that's about it. I'm considering getting the 4cyl version for the gas mileage but would consider a...
Sorry for the lack of updates or a video. It's midterm week here at college and my mind has been busy with studies. I'll try to get a video of what the scanner is showing in a few days. Some more info though, the O2 is an AcDelco part. Don't start with me because at the time it was the...
Yeah the scanner is telling me when this happens. When I get a break from work and classes in a few days I'll take a video of it switching back and forth on the scanner.
Truck in question is in sig. After the truck has warmed up and your just cruising at a steady speed, say 35mph with light throttle, it almost feels like the engine just very briefly has a cylinder drop out but it's very slight and hard to feel. It almost feels as if your pulling a trailer and...
I'll come out of lurk status and post my .02 for this. I had this same problem on my truck and my aerostar. For some reason the linings on cheaper brake shoes absorb moisture in the air (rain, really high humidity, etc.,.) and that causes the shoes to grab like there's no tomorrow until they...
Your right. I'll just snug it up some more and if it goes it goes. Either way it'll need to be replaced eventually but I'll see if I can get some more life out of it.
Being it's a 351 the firing order shouldn't have the 7-8 crossfire issue. Do check your plug wires and make sure you didn't get two of them crossed. It's really easy to do and will definitely cause a miss. Just follow the wire from the distributor cap and make sure it's going to the right...
I do have a request for that topic I posted. Can we get that made as a sticky somewhere that way other people can see it without having to dig for it again?
When I got this truck 2 years ago I adjusted some slack out of the steering gear after making sure the rest of the front end components were good. Now the slack has returned and again all front end components are good. I know you usually adjust a gear once but adjusting one twice is a concern...
If you have a MAF setup then there's a sensor in the same place a MAP sensor would be on a speed density system. Only thing is it's a baro sensor instead. (also shaped the same just the vacuum port is capped off).
^ Yup. I know that TSB quite well and have made sure that I've got 7 and 8 routed as far away as I can get them.Sorry for the lack of updates but life and work caught up with me and I'm still getting back on my feet from it. I decided to just put 91 octane in both tanks and the ping is now...
Motor was hot when compression testing was done. Numbers are in psi. I have hooked up a hand pump vacuum onto the egr and pull a vacuum at idle. The engine does stumble and tries to die when I do this.
Ok. Worked on it some more today and was able to verify some stuff. When the engine is running and a vacuum gauge is hooked up to the vacuum line for the egr valve, I revved the motor and was seeing a steady vacuum being applied such as the computer commanding egr to flow into the engine...
Watched the spark advance with the scanner and when it did ping it was retarding the spark back quite a bit, so I'm pretty sure the knock sensor is doing it's job. I haven't had a chance to test the egr vacuum supply but plan on doing that tomorrow morning. Can an exhaust leak cause a ping as...
Well, I got a small mirror and looked over the crossover tube and didn't see any rust on it. Grabbed it and tried to wiggle it and it felt solid. Then had a friend start the engine while I felt around the tube and didn't feel any air escaping from it. On the way home I had the scanner hooked...
Vehicle in question is a 93 F150 5.0L V8, 2wd E4OD. Under acceleration it will ping (more noticeable when engine is warmed up) and will ping when I'm cruising on the interstate and just maintaining the same speed. It's pinging bad enough that I'm really afraid I'm going to put a hole in the...
Oh, and a bunch of the Rangers and F150/E150s with the 4.2L V6 also use a side-mount. Just be sure to count the number of holes in the "Y" when looking to see if your getting a 95 or 130 amp. The alternator I'm using in mine came from a Ranger originally.
I'll describe this best as I can. This really only applies for engines that have a side mount style alternator but 12/6 mounts are similar (just have to buy a harness).First thing of course is to unhook the battery cables. Second remove the serpentine belt and then the charge cable and...
