  1. Why would I find plastic pieces in my oil pan?

If I decide to tackle this myself first, what exactly do I need to order and from where is the best to get it? I have seen references to a "timing chain kit". Thanks.
  2. Why would I find plastic pieces in my oil pan?

I meant "guide" not "guard" :-)
  3. Why would I find plastic pieces in my oil pan?

Blacksnapon, is there anything about my situational details in this thread that indicate if my pieces were from the front or rear? I will say that the long piece of the right chain guard was up in the front of the oil pan, so, perhaps that is some indication? Thanks!
  4. Why would I find plastic pieces in my oil pan?

If I was to try and get a shop to do this, what should a timing chain job cost roughly? And, should I just tell them I need a "timing chain job" or is there a better way to put it in shop-lingo terms?? I haven't called anyone yet, and, I may still attempt it myself first and see how far I get...
  5. Why would I find plastic pieces in my oil pan?

Shortbed, on the expedition you are referring to, did you pull the engine or leave it in? If you left it in, any pointers?
  6. Why would I find plastic pieces in my oil pan?

Just curious if it would be worth a shortterm subscription to HELMINC.COM for my Expedition (for these problems)?
  7. Why would I find plastic pieces in my oil pan?

I wondered about that. With oil pressure back up, wouldn't the tensioners now be back to better functioning as well? And, if it has slipped, how would you know where it was supposed to have been when doing a chain job on it? As was said earlier, new chains are color coded. As was also...
  8. Why would I find plastic pieces in my oil pan?

Wow! Thanks to all for the feedback!! I have a pretty good idea now what the next steps should be.One thing that is puzzling me right now is that the engine seemed to idle and rev fine (like normal) when I cranked it up to drive up on the ramps and was idling fine on the ramps before I cut...
  9. Why would I find plastic pieces in my oil pan?

Not sure. I posted this on a few other forums and guy said it looked like it was a piece of the "timing chain guide". So, what's involved in getting at the timing chains to examine them? That sort of fits too as while I did not find this exact part number, I have since come across a part...
  10. Why would I find plastic pieces in my oil pan?

Hello,I have a 1999 2WD Expedition with the 5.4L Triton engine. I had been having some problems with oil pressure and the truck had been parked for over a year (as we have an extra vehicle). I was pretty certain the oil pump was OK and suspected the oil take-up tube screen (as I encountered...
  11. 1999 Exp XLT 5.4L 2WD Oil Pump Failing?

Hello to All,I am an IT consulting professional by trade with some modest automotive repair and tooling experience.I have a 99 Exp XLT 5.4L 2WD unit that has (I think I have narrowed it down) a failing/failed/clogged oil pump (after much observation and forum research). The truck has...
