    phenolic carb spacer?

CB, I removed all of the AC stuff including the small rad at the front. The only things that the engine is pulling is the alternator, power steering pump and the fan. Not sure what degree thermostat it is running. I think the fan spacer is 3 inches. Getting it closer would be a good idea. One...

    phenolic carb spacer?

I agree. I want to get the base of the carb higher off of the intake manifold so it will keep the fuel cooler. Should eliminate the hot hard starting issue. I completed the installation of the shroud today. Took the truck for a test drive to look at the difference in temp. It made NO...

    phenolic carb spacer?

Baker, the only line I see going to my carb is a small rubber vacuum tube coming out of the base of the distributor. Otherwise it only has a 1/4" gasket at the base.

    phenolic carb spacer?

update...I have been doing some research on line and to the best of my ability I have found that some enthusiasts have had success with the Fel-pro 60529 carb spacer. I think I will pull the carb and take a gasket with me when I go to the parts store to check this out. Hope I can find it...

    phenolic carb spacer?

Does anybody know where I can get a 1 inch phenolic carb spacer for my Motorcraft 2bbl carb? I am spending the next couple of days installing a radiator shroud to try to bring the temp down some. My truck doesn't start well when it is hot so I am hoping that the shroud, and the spacer (if...

kind of a sad day for me....

Guys, funny thing is, even on cold mornings the truck starts up on the first crank and there is NO noise from the bottom end as one might have if things were loose. For that matter I have been impressed lately how quiet the thing runs cold! Even after warm up it is just great. I have been...

kind of a sad day for me....

My dent has 300 miles on it since we pulled the engine and did the whole rebore and new stuff. We opted to reuse everything on the bottom end because according to the receipts since the complete rebuild in 2010 the truck only has about 2000K on those parts. For about the first 280 miles since I...

Awesome!! Thank you for the reply. I will take a look under there and see what I can find. Donald.

    fuse box question

Hey Bandit, that's a good idea. Did you tap into the fuse box itself or somewhere along the line out? THX!!

What did you do to your Dent today

Hey Russell, I am on that very same mission right now. I stand there and look at how somebody in the deep dark past rewired some of the things under there and wonder what on earth he had been smoking at the time. I figure I will buy a few spools of different color wire, do some cutting...

    fuse box question

I have purchased a new after market gauge cluster for my dent. I plan to clamp it on the bottom of the metal dash flange so as not to drill any holes. Call me crazy but that is just the way I am.... But It comes with lights so I can see the readings while driving at night. I have looked at on...

    before and after AC removal

DNFXDLI, perhaps with a lot of work we could have upgraded the old system. The AC radiator on front of the main radiator was pretty old and the connections were rough. Plus it appears that the original compressor would have had to be totally redone. That said, I still have all of the original...

Thank you Doug. It's getting there.

    before and after AC removal

Hi guys. My mechanic inspected the entire AC system on this truck and pretty much pronounced it dead. So I figured I would replace the whole system with something from this century when I get the chance. But I decided to remove the old stuff. And it made a lot of difference in the amount of room...

    Good news!!

updateFound a grounding strap on the firewall that had not been secured to the block when the engine was reinstalled in the truck. I bolted it back into place and now all instruments are functioning as normal! Donald.

    Good news!!

Russell, you are right on target about the grounding. That is exactly where I will start. But I am sure the issue will be simple to resolve. She runs so sweet and the idle is very smooth. Nice to start the truck and see NO smoke! :)

What did you do to your Dent today

Picked up my dent from my mechanic who did a some needed engine work and it runs great! Turns out that while my baby was there a bunch of people stopped and asked if the owner wanted to sell it. He indicated that most likely not as when I would get it back the engine would be like new. He was...

    Good news!!

Hi guys!! Spent the last 10 days in Cali and Arizona visiting family. Got back last night and it is good to be home. Dorothy was right! Walked down to Scotty's and picked up my truck. It runs great!! Only issue was that the water temp pegged to the right. Brought it back to him and they jumped...

    Good news!!

Russell, you are so right!! I really do not trust the tires. I will be pulling a small camping trailer in the spring so I want a solid engine and good tires. Here is a photo of kinda what I had in mind. My wheels are green though. Donald.

    Good news!!

Yeah, really excited to get it back. But when I took it in I told Scotty that I don't want it done fast. I want it done right. I am sure it will be a whole new horse after it is back on the road. The next thing I want to do is replace the tires. The truck has Starfire tires on there now. I...

    Good news!!

Hi guys. Just wanted to give you all an update on my 73' F100. As you recall my truck was burning oil but had very few miles on it since a total rebuild. I tried everything to discover why and even with expert suggestions from members on this forum the cause eluded me. I took the truck to my...

Deeply honored that my truck is TOTY!

Thanks to all for this great honor. I also appreciate the great help and suggestions offered by my friends when I have had technical questions or needed help locating things. I am not a proud man but do get a little rise when the truck attracts attention or people walk up and want to know about...

    Wish me luck...

As you all know from some of my earlier posts that as much as I love owning my 73' I have always been a bit annoyed that it burns some oil. Never could figure out why. But now that the Cadillac that my step daughter has borrowed is returned I can take my truck to Scotty at the Corner Garage and...

    replacement radio....

Hi guys. Finally got my radio installed. It was a snap once I did a little homework on line about how to do the wiring. I love the retro look but it works and sounds great! :nana: Here is a photo for you. Merry Christmas to all! Donald

    1973 AC / heater fan

Wonderful suggestions guys!!! I will take a look at that. It makes perfect sense to start with the fan motor first. I doubt that the fan motor has had any service since it was new. If all else fails I can order a new one and change it out. Thanks again, Donald

    1973 AC / heater fan

Actually, the fan makes almost no noise at all even at full blast. Just the sound of the air moving.
