  1. Carb Options for 390

so as it turns out my weight for the discharge check ball is missing and the part in the kit doesn't fit. I can't find a replacement part.does this part really need to be there or even exist or did they just draw it on the rebuild diagram to confuse my little head?! this whole thing is...
  2. Carb Options for 390

The part that I know of missing is the discharge check weight, which my kit does have. That would probably explain why the carb was getting flooded, right?I totally agree with you, million. I was going to just chuck the carb and get a new one, but for $20 I opened up the carb, found out the...

Finally did it and I noticed a few missing parts as i took it apart. Someone rebuilt before, but must have left a few things on the work bench....ord only know if ill get it put back together somewhat "right"
  4. Carb Options for 390

so I finally broke down and took my truck to a mechanic to get them to get it in "running" condition, then I could work from there. Because its really hard to run a farm without a truck. 'smiliepig' I needed it to pick up feed and hay this week.Didn't help much, i just lost a bunch of money...
  5. Fuel Tank Problems

Finally called in some help!I could blow through the fuel line to the tank from the fuel pump, but nothing was flowing through from the tank. Eventually figured out there was something in the toggle switch between tanks. By passed the whole swtich, just going to run on one tank and tada! its...
  6. Fuel Tank Problems

Fuel line isn't clogged. My uncle checked the fuel pump right before I started this project and it worked...just seems like I can't get the damn thing primed! got 1/4 tank of gas (8 gallons doesn't go far!). Poured gas into the carb, it turned on hit the accelorator and bleahg. dead. its just...
  7. Fuel Tank Problems

its been a long struggle but I got everthing back up in place. overflow hose was cut short dispite the fact i gave the guy my original you'd think he'd cut it the same length, right? nope. I managed to get it on with little hose to spare. and the moment we've all been waiting for:....and my...

  9. Fuel Tank Problems

I ended up buying a new tank and sending unit from LMC...but then the sending unit was bent and just this weekend i got the parts. Got the tank in place but now im having a heck of a time getting the hoses back on! Replaced the smaller (overflow?) hose, but the fuel filler hose is on the filler...
  10. Fuel Tank Problems

Hum, the switch is a knob by the seat. So maybe it is a 1972? Side before axle tank. Behind axle tank is not easily accessible without removing the back end of the truck.I just counted my money from selling pigs...guess I can afford a new tank afterall :D
  11. Hello! I'm Clueless!

Oh you can bet the first thing I did was get a repair manual. ;) I much prefer the chilton manuals, but Haynes was all I could get. Doesn't cover stuff like, "what is this tube that is all broken up and leading to no where off the carb? (is this even the carb?)"Answer: its the return fuel line...
  12. Hello! I'm Clueless!

Howdy everyone! I grew up in the suburbs dreaming of a place in the country and learning how to do mechanics. Dreams do come true! I've got a little farm I run by myself and currently operate it with a tiny sedan. yes, I've transported grown sheep and pigs in my car. and hay. and as much feed as...
  13. Fuel Tank Problems

I don't know a damn thing about mechanics and bought a rig for my farm that came with issues. I'm poor, broke and doing everything I can on the cheap. Oh sweet, innocent, naïvete that led me to believe the person selling wouldn't LIE about the truck they were selling for $900....Anyway, 1973...
