  5. 48 cab vs. 51 cab

the current 51 cab is in pretty rough shape in the usual areas. But certainly think the idea of keeping the original intact is a goal. it seem the perfect cab is no where to be found thus is becomes a risk/benefit decision with each circumstance a bit different. Anyway...what about cabs from...

  9. Leaf Springs

The frame for my 51 is painted and ready to go. Question now is the leaf springs. I have the originals. I could clean up the old ones or go new. Best price I have seen is $225 for rears $125 for fronts. Is it critical to get new ones or is that money better spent some where else. If I keep them...

Found 302 out of 83 mustang but no tranny going into my 51 pickup. after minimal research it seems tranny for that year was nothing spectacular. Any suggestions appreciated. Prefer to go with automatic. I have a c4 from 68 fairlane but bell housing does not match up. Is it possible to swap bell...
  12. 302 motor mount on 1951 frame

Mt original goal was to use the front motor mounts on the frame. Is there any application for a 302 that uses the original front motor mounts on the frame? The previous engine had a bracket that connect to the front of the block and then sat on top of the frame motor mounts. Thanks
  13. 302 motor mount on 1951 frame

well honestly hadn't even thought about the suspension left. As I am sure you can tell half the fun for me and my kids are researching all the info, looking at options and deciding which way to go.That being said I was hoping to soften up the suspension for a more comfortable ride but haven't...

ironically just looked at a 460 today. still thinking on it. An old timer at the local yard told me it would be tough to keep a 460 cool given the radiator size. Thoughts?

  20. 1951 ford F1 rear axle

  21. 1951 ford F1 rear axle

what engine and tranny you have?
  22. 1951 ford F1 rear axle

I realize that but not too worried> it will be a long way off. That axle be sitting still for 25 years. Pretty ugly when I opened it up.
  23. 1951 ford F1 rear axle

10 teeth on pinion 35 on ring gear. So is 3.5 good bad or indifferent.
  24. 1951 ford F1 rear axle

well it is certainly getting interesting. I appreciate all the advice. I was under the assumption the rear end was from a '51 thus expecting 11 teeth as I beleive that is all they made back then. I ma certainly in the home stretch now. Expect to count the ring gear tonight.
  25. 1951 ford F1 rear axle

Also pulled out the pinion gear, decide to try to count. What exactly am I counting. There are 10 teeth not 11. I have not gotten the ring gear out yet
