  1. My 427 Boat Mot...*ahem* Engine

Hi Mel thanks for all the info. Very good to know the inside details. That must have been a great place to work. I hope you still have some of those 427 parts around. That's alots of parts!!
  2. My 427 Boat Mot...*ahem* Engine

These are automotive blocks and I'm not sure if they were used in marine apps but.....these are a few I've had or have seen in person. But all had the soft press in freeze plugs.Listed by casting number....C3AE-6015-AB C3AE-6015-H C4AE (no other numbers/letters on block.) C4AE-6015-A This...
  3. My 427 Boat Mot...*ahem* Engine

Sorry to go OT here but......Mel, do you know anything about the 289's HM built for Donzi? I've been looking at a few mid 60's 16'-19' Donzi's and don't know squat about the 289's in them. Were they solid lifter hipo 271 hp engines? And did Holman Moody install the engines or just build them...
  4. My 427 Boat Mot...*ahem* Engine

I couldn't find a pic but Ebay auction # 230393438884 is a auction for a 427 marine block. Cast as a sideoiler and machined as a topoiler. The 2nd pic shows the left side with the shaved side oil galley. I forgot to mention on some applications this was done to clear the exhaust manifolds as...
  5. My 427 Boat Mot...*ahem* Engine

Many of the 427 marine blocks (including the 4 I've had over the years) were cast as sideoilers but oil galleys were drilled as topoilers. The side oil galley passage is on the left side of the block above the crossbolts. But because some of the boat motor mounts would interfere, that area of...
  6. My 427 Boat Mot...*ahem* Engine

Actually press in freeze plugs were in the first 427 topoilers in 63.5. 64 is the latest I've personally seen them in 427's. But I'm certain there are exceptions as we see here. And some of the later 67 2 bolt main industrial 427's that had press in plugs.Anyway very cool boat! Best of luck...
  7. My 427 Boat Mot...*ahem* Engine

Very cool find. That's the first marine 427 I've seen with press in freeze plugs. All the marine 427's I've seen and had used screw in brass freeze plugs. What year boat is it in? The block was not cast as a sideoiler (but machined as a topoiler) as most were. Interesting.
  8. Looking for FE header for a 66

You can buy repops or used sets everyday of the week on ebay.
  9. Looking for FE header for a 66

What about some cast iron factory shorty's? Like the early 390HP and 406 Galaxies used? I think there are guys who use those in some pickups too.
  10. chrome timing chain cover

You can polish it and it'll look pretty nice. Every so often I see a chrome one on ebay. But not many. The factory aluminum is fairly soft and easy to polish. Fact is you can't see a whole lot of it behind the water pump and pulleys. I hear some of those new chrome spray paints are actually...
  11. 390 Ford Tri-power manifold.

    www.hptrends.com there's a good website on the FE 3x2's.
  12. 390 Ford Tri-power manifold.

Carls Ford parts and other vendors sell new re-issued 3x2 Holleys. Blue Thunder and others make the air cleaner, linkage and other bits. The Ford 3x2 intakes themselves are the only things that were never repopped. There are some good websites and sources for parts. They are in fact pretty easy...
  13. 427 Custom Camshafts

I love that pair of white 427's. Did you ask on that forum? The Chris Craft Commanders forum? I'm sure Paul or someone there might know about the marine RR cams. You can call Holman Moody too. They still grind cams and might be able to help. Are you running twin 427's and what are they in?
  14. c6 tranny ?

Company is Performance Automatic Racing or PAR. Part # PA26390 retail $450.
  15. c6 tranny ?

There is one company that makes the C4-AOD to FE aluminum bellhousing. The name escapes me but they sell on ebay. They used to be $500. Not sure how they are priced now. I can find them if interested.
  16. 150 code 360 (bill or dennis?)

Not Bill or Dennis but...The reverse "105" blocks were cast at MCC (Michigan Casting Center). So that is simply all it means. The "352" blocks were cast at DIF (Dearborn Iron Foundry) If you look closely at each block you'll see the foundry logo's as well. MCC came online I beleive late 71 to...
  17. A Question for the Parts Gurus

Maybe a little late to add this but George Anderson of Gessford Machine has the Ford 427 marine manuals and specs scanned on his site. http://www.gessford.com/cobraparts/images/Marine427.htm
