The only pic I have is in post# 25 of this thread. Not the greatest pic. I only cut the center out and kept my pedals, etc.
I had to brace the old x member to the new one to keep it from flexing. I wish I had done it differently, cutting the center out of the old one really weakened everything...
I was going to mention the 254, but it sounds like you already know about them. I have several 226's but never really paid much attention to any differences.
Welcome to FTF!
how long since the truck was last started? If it's been awhile, you could have a stuck valve that is not letting the engine turn over. try turning it a full 360 degrees with a socket on the bolt in the center of the crank pulley
Wow, it's been a busy summer so far! My blue truck has been parked since June, when I found many "sparkles" in the oil. I drove it once since and the RH water pump started pouring out coolant....so now it's parked again till I have time. Bummer.
Engine will come out to check bearings and get new...
Been working on some driveability issues on the flatty...it's missing at higher rpms. Also has a vibration, possibly from the misfiring.
Still has the faint knock as well, I.m thinking about pulling the engine to check more "in depth".
Sucks to do this during cruisin season.......but I don't...
Your truck should easily go 55-60 mph with the 3.92 gears, unless your tires are really short. Just push down on the gas pedal, LOL.
Seriously, it may sound like it is over-revving, but it really shouldn't hurt it.with a 29" tire at 60 mph your rpm would be 2725
with a 27"...
The 9" rear end swap is a popular way to go, but not the only one. I swapped in a 9" with 3.00 gears, because I had it laying around. It improved highway speeds but the wide 3 speed trans ratios made it harder to drive with the taller gears. In other words, with only 100 hp, it was a dog.
Since...
Makes perfect sense. I've had that happen in the past, usually involved some bad words......
Thankfully I don't work on the bigger trucks anymore. Thanks for the offer...
I love a stick shift.....almost everything I own is manual. Sometimes they try my patience tho.SUCCESS!!!!! Got the trans back in the truck and the clutch works smooth as glass. Exactly how it should be.....
Anyhow I'm a happy camper now!On to the next "problem".....heck, I may even work on...
I got all of my clutch parts ready to go back in, just waiting on some new flywheel bolts. Fingers crossed hoping this fixes it.......if not I'm switching to an automatic!
You might want to try grounding directly to the frame or engine. The rad support is mounted on a rubber pad if I recall. Might be OK, but might be a poor ground too.
If your charging system is working right, there really isn't any reason it should use up a battery......I get at least 3-4 years...
I stayed with 6V on my truck. Your starter may be dragging causing it to crank slow and drain all of your power. Battery cable size and quality of grounds are very important on a 6V system. Also if your fuel pump is weak it will take a lot of cranking to get the gas up to the carb.Combine any...
Dang Havi, I think you may have more "projects" going than I do.....
I didn't think that was possible! The midwest sure has gotten a lot of bad weather lately. Hope your snow melts pretty soon....
I'll start.....I have driven my truck a few times this spring, the weather was pretty nice for a week or so, now it's icky again. Rain, snow, mud, etc.Got a couple things I want to do to her before summer.1. Clutch. Still chattering, not getting any better. I could live with it, but want to...
Hey folks, instead of us hijacking some innocent members build thread, lets do our "bench racing" on this one. Keep it civilized though......I haven't posted much lately because this forum has been pretty slow. It's a viscous circle.......so post up!!!!!!smilieFordlogo Anything old Ford truck...
Hi Ray, how you been? Holding down the fort I see..........
I have started a few threads here they just kinda fizzle out. Must be a lot of lurkers.
I'll see if i can come up with something, LOL
My truck had the lite duty 3 speed.....it drove pretty good just cruising around. 3.25's would work fine I think.
Many years ago I had a bone stock '51 f-1 with a flat V8 and 4 spd....swapped in a 9 inch with 3.25's. Drove out nice, i ran that thing all over the place. Shifting was an adventure...
Misc T-5 ramblings...........My truck has a mostly stock flatty, T5 and 3.00 gears. Short tires.....about 27 in. It's geared TOO high!
Problem with tall gears is you gotta have the HP to pull them. Mine doesn't. Also the F-1 has the aerodynamics of a brick. As a result my truck gets lousy...
That pic of the '50 Ford car dash got the wheels turning in my brain (scary)....so I got one from my pal Bill. I really like the simple lines of this dash, and think it will look good in the truck. We shall see....
Currently looking for some modern gauges to swap into the cluster....
Maybe even...
