I had this truck do the same thing Roger but not so bad as yours sounds. Still had to change the oil though. It more than likely is the fuel level as I've smelled some gas and had problems starting it when warm. I was in a hurry getting the truck together as it was January and the installation...
No, it wasn't the accelerator pump. I'm going to check the float level again. It was good when I installed it but it doesn't take long to check again. I'm sure curious about what's going on with it. I have an old Model A IH tractor, had it for 35 years. About the time I think I know all it's...
Thanks Roger. Tried all the above with no improvement. Got a good shot of gas when I did as you suggested. I may just get a kit or at least the accelerator pump. From my reading this seems to be a common problem
Thanks for the reply Fellro. I will do as you suggested. I did look for vacuum leaks and all that seems tight from what I can see and what the gauge reads. I had someone else suggest moving the linkage to the inboard side to increase the gas flow. My specs show it should be outboard but I've...
69 F-250 390 auto with an Autolite 2bbl carb. I overhauled the motor last year and put on a factory reconditioned carburetor at the time. The carb never did adjust out quite right but in all fairness I didn't have the time to spend on it either. It was good enough to get by. Today I went back...
I overhauled the 390 in my 69 F-250 and installed a new (rebuilt) 2 bbl Autoline carburetor. The problem is that when it's running the linkage is sticky and won't return to the dashpot very easily to idle down. When the motor is not running it works fine. It's well lubricated. Any thoughts on this?
Sorry I didn't reply, I wasn't notified you'd posted. I had a wrist pin go out on a rebuilt Chevy before and there was no noise except for the sound of pouring oil in it! I had bought a short block and it always used oil. I finally tore it down when I was working out of town and bought another...
I have maybe 40-50k on a rebuild. New crank and bearings, new cam and bearings, high pressure oil pump.It had been running great and the oil pressure was good. Oil level was good. After about a 4 mile drive to church it began a tapping that got louder as I pulled in the lot. It was the first...
The shift column for my 69 F250 automatic is broken at the top where the lever is attached. Does anyone know where I could find a new/used one or would it be best to get a floor mount shifter? On the bright side I had a friend hook me up with a 68 F250 for parts but it's in way too good of shape...
Thanks for the replies Sean and Bill. I searched quite a while before I came and posted but had no luck obviously. There is a mechanic near me that used to work for Ford. I may see what he has to say about it or just break down and buy another manual. Thank you again, very much appreciated.
My 69 3/4 ton has a caliper that's started rattling around. In the past I'd shoot silicone caulk around the pins and and let it set up. This time I ordered a kit for it. The problem is that I don't know how to install the parts properly and can't find a diagram or something similar to give me a...
Thanks Mark, don't know if it would have or not. I think it would have taken a very steep hill because it wasn't totally slack like the next one was. It took a fair amount of pressure to move the gear. I was going to try it if I didn't find anything with the starter. Main reason I checked it...
You were close Dan. I'd checked the starter at the first and it was tight. The only thing a neighbor and I could figure was that the Bendix was slipping into the gear under acceleration. It didn't feel loose but couldn't do it any other way. I took the starter in and replaced it. Before...
Just got back to it today for a bit. I pulled the starter and the gear has had a little chewed off the end where it meets the ring gear. Also can see some metal in the opening for the starter. Apparently somehow the two are meeting when it's under load. I have cranked the motor around using a...
