axle shaft bearing...

plan for right now is at 2 oclock im gonna go pull the axle shaft out and keep the truck jacked up, cause i need a hydraulic press to push the old bearing off and the new one on.

then monday morning im gonna get the bearing taken off and new one put on and then go put the dam thing back together...

i bought the new one... 21 bucks.. aint bad...

Maybe I don't understand how this stuff works... but I didn't think an 8.8 had a pressed on bearing like the 9", but instead has c clips in the differential to hold the axle shaft in.

I've never worked on an 8.8, so I'm not speaking from experience here, but if it works how I think it does there is no bearing on the axleshaft. The is a bearing in the end of the axle tube that the axleshaft rides on, but that bearing stays in the axle tube. The axleshaft would stay held into the differential with a small c clip on the end of the axleshaft, inside the differential.

Again, this is all assumption since I've have no hands-on experience with an 8.8

Go to google images and search "c clip axle" for some reference pics

Honestly that sucks to have that happen, but since I didn't happen to me that is freaking funny

I do hope it is a simple fix for you. I like my 9" that has 4 bolts and a bearing holding my axle in.

I don't have any knowledge on the 8.8,but the axles on my Dana 44 TTB were held on by C-Clips....Could be the same for the 8.8.

Sucks to hear that man. This last week just hasn't been your week at all.

8.8: Remove the inspection cover, you will see two C clips. These retain the R/L axles.

It's somewhat common to have a C clip snap, then the axle walks oughtta the housing...as y'all can see in the pics in posts #11 & 15.

As stated, the bearing does not retain the axle like the 9" rears, it is a c=clip axle. You have to take the diff cover off, then take the shaft that the spider gears ride on out, then you can get the c-clip out. The area the c clip stays in is smaller than the rest of the shaft, so they tend to break there, that is why you cannot run c-clip axles on stock cars. They do make a product called c-clip eliminators though, which basically press on and hold the shaft in, but not sure if they make such for the 8.8.

You will most likely be needing an axle shaft When you get the diff cover off, you will see what we are talking about when you look at the end of the axle shaft itself.

At least you made it to work.

The driver's side is in retaliation since you never take pictures of it.

I can't remember, which wheel is the drive wheel on these trucks?
