Doing headgaskets on an 05 (egr cooler failure, but kept driving and got it hot). While pulling parts off, noticed the air filter was light. Damned thing has the center cut out of it (all the filter element)!:headbang:

You're still a long way from seeing everything! Everytime I say that something new comes along to prove me wrong!!!

I really don't see how you could get much dumber than cutting out the element. If you do see something dumber, Vince...I say it'll be a while. Any explanation as to why it was cut?

to make it a hi-flow filter...
More air=more power?

DUH!
lol, thats my guess anyway, oh and for the cool sound when you really get on it.

Figured...but I wanna hear how a dumbazz would explain the thought process. For the record...during the winter when it's really dry, I've popped off the air cleaners for a few hours just for that really cool sound.

on the bronk only i hope....

On the carb engines i have taken the lid and run it upside down.
It blocks off the inside of the filter still but you get alot more flow into the filter.

You get the cool sound and maybe even a power increasre to boot.

Well, updating my headgasket job, the initial cause was the egr cooler failure. The customer kept driving it. It got hot, and quit. During teardown, the turbo was full of coolant, and I got 2 quarts of coolant out of the exhaust manifolds. When the heads came off, #1 piston was cracked (egr dumps into #1) and there is a bent intake valve on #3. We're waiting on the customer to see what he wants to do.

He'll probably decline a new air filter. Maybe he was trying to cut down on weight

This one is a good one for "get the OASIS first" arguement. He just bought it (dont know where) and the OASIS is ugly.
