I used 1200 degree with ceramic, two days later the paint flaked off... Sucks.

Was it the type they advertised as ceramic? Some of them claim to be similar to ceramic paint somehow (I don't even know if that's scientifically possible out of a spray can) but I would try it.

I looked at some the other day in a parts store. If I am remembering right it said it contained ceramic resins. Not sure what that means.

I would think that stove paint (only in black as far as I know) would work well.

EDIT: I found this on duplicolor (there are many brands):

Duplicolor High Heat Paint with Ceramic is formulated for high temperature paint applications. Exclusive durable Ceramic formula increases heat dispersion to maintain & protect paint's original finish. Developed and tested in the lab, this high-heat paint will perform up to the most rigorous standards of racing and street rod enthusiasts.

Ceramic resins provide protection from exposure to excessive heat and automotive fluids. Resists oil, gas, grease, rust, salt, humidity, and solvents — and temperatures up to 1200°F, intermittently. With EZ Touch nozzle. Price shown is for one 12 oz. can. Available in a three colors.

I will just wait and see how it works. It says it needs primer under it (same product, just the primer).

I painted mine as well, that day most of the paint flaked off as well. I was just going to header wrap it all so you cant see the rusty headers lol.

EDIT: My header would never fit in my oven.

I stripped and painted my headers with stove pipe paint, 1200*

After that I grazed it with a propane torch, though I don't seem to recall if I really finished the job, lol. Hey Mike! Hit those headers with a torch before you install them! lol

Yeah the torch trick was my idea :D At first I did it just to test the paint, then I saw that when I went over it with the torch, it would get real shiny for a second and then go back to matte, and it would only do that the first time I hit it with the torch and never again... So I figured that the heat was curing the paint somehow.
