Been kinda looking into this a bit, was wondering if anyone has done one of the LED headlights to replace the composite style halogen bulbs and any feedback regarding the swap, thanks!
I looked into doing leds or hids on my pickup and couldn't find any way to run them in the stock housings that doesn't result in obnoxious focus/alignment issues. Hopefully someone else here will know the secret because Id love to know
I just went with rigid driving lights. They are not street legal, but in my area, that is not too much of an issue. I have a separate switch for on/off. They compliment the Hella headlights quite well.
I have been stopped once and told they were not street legal. I told the officer that I had a hard time seeing at night, and he just told me to be a little more discreet about it.
It's illegal at the Federal level (and on down) to swap LED's or HID's into fixtures made for incandescent bulbs; surely this is why Sylvania and Philips don't offer a conversion kit. However and despite it being technically illegal, there is a clean way to upgrade to newer lighting technology and do it in a way that won't blind oncoming traffic nor create an unsafe situation for the driver of the modded vehicle.
This it where people serious about a quality end result will shop for parts, it won't be cheap and it's a project that can take some time and patience.
