2.3L lifetime airfilter

Hey all, got a friend with an '03 Focus, nice little car, 2.3L.
Apparently you can't change the airfilter on them, can anyone fill me in on this?

Apparently, the 2003 Focus is one of the PZEV(Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle) group that uses a lifetime filter(150,000 miles). The entire box is replaced at a cost of about $400. I think the box is located down low on the driver's side?

thanks father doug, more than I knew, lol. Looking in the owners manual there should be an airfilter blockage check doo-hicky type thing a ma jigger, will have to review the proper name. Things got about 134,000 miles so, will keep an eye on this.

I'm not thrilled about those things, but you're right about the driver side down low.
