67 Fuel sending unit

Hi All, I've got a 1967 F100 with a non working fuel guage. I tested the resistance of the fuel sending unit while it is still in the tank with my ohm meter by touching both leads to the connections. I got zero ohms....assuming my sending unit is faulty.

Looking at LMC they say that the replacement sending unit is only for new replacement tanks!

PS-not an in-cab tank.
