Some very nice cars and trucks there. I really like the red truck pictured above. YelloThumbUp

Thanks Scott!! I'm not crazy about the "Ranger" air cleaner / fake intake, but it is a beautiful truck!!

That 1970 Ford F100 is NOT a Ranger or a Ranger XLT. It's not an Explorer or a Sport Custom either. It IS a Custom.

Now my question to y'all is: How can I tell?

I don't have a clue Bill......I guess I'll have to wait and see if anybody else can answer your question....

Bill, I found some pictures I took at a car show in Henderson, NC last October of another truck with the "Ranger XLT" emblems:

Bob, that's the same exact truck...the only difference is the aircleaner.

Compare the engine features, the passenger car door mirror, the bed upper non correct molding, wheels...same-o same-o.

Ranger XLT's have wide (approx 3") upper side moldings with wood grained inserts top and bottom. The Rangers use the same style of moldings except the wood grained area is painted black. Both Rangers, Sport Customs and Explorers have ribbed lower moldings and wheel opening mldgs.

The Explorers, Customs and Sport Customs upper mldgs are like the ones pictured. They are 1 1/2" wide.

I'm an odd duck...besides being a Ford partsman, I'm also a old car buff. In the 35 years I worked in the LA area, only one other partsman was into the old stuff. Today, he owns Mustang Service Center in North Hollywood.

Most everyone else who liked cars back then was into racing.

Today's parts "help" is mostly interested in only one thing....a paycheck!

Back in the mid 1970's, Ford had a 100 question trivia contest on Ford history for the parts and service personnel nationwide. Only one person out of 30,000+ who took the test answered all the questions correctly. I wonder who that was?
