Well there is a bunch of add ons i've seen.
There is the air intake kits tuner kits Exhaust kits, and then you can go crazy and do the injection kits like Propane and Noz..

The early 6.0's didnt have a stellar reputation for reliability. Ford took the international engine, and doubled the horsepower with mostly tuning alone. Then the aftermarket adds another hundred or two. Without beefing up other components, you're playing with fire. Yeah, you'll get more horses, but at what cost. The only mod for the 6.0 that I agree with is a coolant filter. That will lessen the chances for an egr/oil cooler failure.

The only available complete EGR delete kit i am aware of on the market is available from Liberator Performance. Kit cost $600.

Unfortunately it is not as simple as just adding the egr delete kit. As Vince eluded to the 6.0 is computer controlled and changine any one thing effects many other components. In order to remove the egr system, the computer must then be custom tuned so that the engine will operate properly. Currently there are only two options to custom tune the 6.0, 1) SCT with custom written tunes for your specific vehicle & driving conditions (there are only a handfull of qualified custom tune writers for the 6.0, Eric at Innovative diesel is one; 2) A Phalanx tuner with custom tunes from Matt at Spartan Diesel (these are currently still in the beta testing stage).
These will cost you anywhere from $500-$1100 depending on the hardware chosen and the types of tuning required.

NO NO NO EDGE!! They are KNOWN for causing serious transmission issues. You MUST get a flash like the SCT or the new one coming out from Spartan.

thats good to know.. like i said.. i dont own a diesel so i dont know much about programmers

Another thing to look out for when adding a tuner. The headgaskets can go from the excessive cylinder pressure. Also as far as tuners go SCT with custom tunes of the Spartan Phalanx. Anything that plugs inline or has switch on fly ex edge, banks, bully dog needs to be avoided. As stated above edge is known for taking out trannys.

Also the stock air filter has been found to be the best untill you exceed 500 rwhp. Only use recor fuel and oil filters.

In my opinion, 2 things will make the 6.0 last for a long time.......fuel quality, and coolant quality.

smiliewhathesaid I agree there too! I have a coolant filter and a FASS Fuel System to help the fuel issue as well as double dosing the Power Service Diesel Kleen at every fill up as reccomended by Beach!

Freedom Of Choice.....

Freedom of Choice... this is what makes America great!!!!

1) Freedom to mod one's truck as they wish.

2) Freedom to mod ones truck and accept responsibility.

3) Freedom to mod one's truck and complain how bad Ford's engineering is.

4) Freedom to post on forums about "which is best or safe"... when most are not!!!

5) Freedom to only use mods that extend the longevity of one's truck and not try and turn it into a race car.

6) Freedom to follow "Beachbums advice" and only add coolant filters, use only Racor/Motorcraft oil and fuel filters, use quality fuel additives in every tank and at the most add an oil by-pass filter. These mods have the "Beachbum seal of approval".

Oh, by the way... I have added Bilstein shocks which really tightened up the ride, up-sized to 24" wiper blades for greater visibility, P/S fluid filter, Brightbox mod for greater headlight output (fogs, high and low beams all at the same time when set for "high").

See... I am mod friendly... just with mods that add longevity to one's 6.0L diesel motor.

I plan on modding my truck performance wise. Once the warrenty is up. I plan on x3 with pyro, boost, tranny temp, fuel pressure gauges. Aftermarket injectors and non vgt turbo. But if it breaks it will be on my dime or $15k.

What you want is a dieselsite.com coolant filter.

Forget the tuner, intakes and exhaust... buy a sports car instead with the money. Trucks are for hauling and working out of.
