different door handle escutcheons

Interesting discussion on bonusbuilt.com just uncovered something I never noticed. The 48-50? and 51/52? door handle escutcheons are different. Early ones are chromed and later ones are covered with a rubber boot.

Am I just a slow learner on this?

Just curious...why would they have escutcheons? Did they have door panels?

Mine is just the handle...a thin space...and the door metal.

For 48/50, it's basically just a spring-loaded spacer that covers the step in the handle body and keeps the locating pin in place.

51/52 used a flat plate under a molded rubber cover that's the approx shape of the chrome escutcheon.

The handles are quite different from 53-56's. For sake of argument, your's has the boss or escutcheon cast into the handle.

Is that all confusing enuf?

Hi Paul, same concept. These escutcheons cover a hole and distribute the pressure on the door metal, they have an enclosed spring that keeps tension on the handle to avoid rattles and as a bonus it seals out the drafts.

It's not old school as much as a pragmatic solution to several problems.
