Just a question about my mom's car, a 2004 malibu maxx.

Just yesterday when it was a little chilly we realized that the heat isn't working at all, what would cause that? A/C still blows cold as heck.

Plugged heater core?

Have you checked the coolant level? If it's low, it may not be getting to the core.

an '04 is so new I doubt if the core is plugged. But there may be a vaccuum leak that renders the flow controller useless, or a stuck blend door. That last one is the first I would check after the coolant. The blend door could simply be stuck, needing a nudge to open it, or the vac control "motor" may be inoperative.

My first though was a plugged heater core or a plugged line.

Common issue with those cars. Either heater core or, more likely, the control valve into the heater core.
