Ok, this one is more in depth, and more complex, yet simple. Just think how things are supposed to work, and that all things have a purpose.................... On a manual transmission, the synchronizers have grooves on the inside (next to the shaft). WHY?

I've never opened a synchronized manual...are you talking about a splined shaft? Or are you referring to a groove cut on the face of the synchro?

Well, because it undoubted required considerable extra engineering on the machine that makes them to put it there... (Yeah, I know you was kidding. But I build machines for manufacturing in the summer...[confused])

My best guess is lubrication- i.e. the groove is for oil to flow through.
