car idles worse in reverse

my wife's 97 GEO has never idled great. I think it idles a little low in drive, but just last night it started idling really bad/low in reverse
ideas?

I know this is a little late but may be worth checking out. My dad has owned a couple FWD cars and every one of them at one time or another suffered a broken motor mount, the rear one and they all did the same thing you describe. I guess the engine would rock too far back when in that gear or something. Might be something to check out at least.
