when you take that tool and use a impact...it makes it go by really really fast. Muhahah..

just relised they call it a u-joint tool. I always used a shop vice, and hammer and a old socket, to put my ball joints in, and no i didnt beat ont he caps.

do it too fast and you can damage it tho, so careful. Very useful post!

(of course AFTER i did all that on my truck!)

nah i meant taking the old one out. Ive seam some PITA ones break the tool.

I've got the Ford service manual on a DVD.

Messin with ya bro. My dad has the service manual for his 1986 Bronco. Most of it wll cover my truck.

Besides, its fun tearin down the truck and figuring things out!

skand, thats weird that you posted this. i just got my sisters explorer inspected yesterday and it needed a ball joint. i could have saved 150 bucks and did it myself but ive never done that before.

i dont have the equipment or the paitence to do it the redneck way. So per dads orders i gotta take it tot he mechanic.

Definitely useful information. I plan on replacing all ball joints/tie rods before I put my truck on the road again (not for a while, lol). Just so I know they're all nice and new. :)
