door question?

jager420

gotta love an old ford
Would the door from an 84 f150 reg.cab fit onto an 89 f150 reg.cab or would there be complications?

The doors interchange 1980-1996 for the F-Series and Bronco, and the F600-F800 from 1980-1999. The only differences are in the door panels, and vent windows, door glass. Oh, and power vs. manual, but that's obvious.

In 1980-1986, the vent window features a very thin vertical bar separating the vent glass from the door glass. However in 1987, this bar was widened. Because of this change, the door glass on 1987-1996 trucks is slightly smaller than that in the 80-86 trucks. In 1992, when Ford re-designed the dash in the F-Series and Broncos, they realized the old vent window style interfered with the dash and it would not open fully. So Ford took a section of the front piece of the glass out so that the vent window can clear the dash. And finally, the 1992-1996 trucks have the armrest support bracket in a different spot than the 1980-1991 trucks do.

These parts mentioned above will all interchange with each other without a problem. So you can easily use your 84 door panels on the 89 doors. as long as both trucks are power window, or both trucks are manual window optioned.

One thing that many overlook is the dang cable for the door latch, the 87 up doors have it, while the 80-86 still had linkage that was way more reliable. Haven't investigated if the linkage could be retrofit to a cable door.

Yep, forgot that fact as well. Also, plastic interior door handles on 87-96, while the 80-86 trucks and Broncos have metal interior door handles.

I refit the newer doors with plastic handles with the older metal ones... One bolt swap.
