WARNING: THIS MODIFICATION IS AUTHORIZED ONLY FOR THE LISTED ENGINE. PERFORMING THIS MODIFICATION ON OTHER ENGINE CALIBRATIONS IS UNAUTHORIZED AND COULD CREATE LIABILITY UNDER APPLICABLE FEDERAL OR LOCAL LAWS.
ISSUE:
A shift flare (rise in engine rpm) of 200-300 rpm may occur intermittently during 2-3 and/or 3-4 upshift on some vehicles. This may be caused by reduced Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) flow at the transmission solenoid body assembly.
ACTION:
Replace the solenoid body with a revised Solenoid Body (F81Z-7G391-CB) and reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with latest calibration. Refer to the following text for details.
Verify concern, then replace solenoid body assembly and reprogram PCM with new calibration. Refer to the 1999 Super Duty F-Series Workshop Manual, Section 307-01, for solenoid body assembly, removal, and installation procedures. Follow all normal service procedures as outlined in the Workshop Manual.
NOTE: REMOVAL OF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID FILTER ASSEMBLY IS NOT REQUIRED WHEN REPLACING THE SOLENOID BODY.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
