NJ State Inspection

I just purchased a 2001 f350 4x4 diesel. The truck is higher then stock, but well under tip limit for inspection. However, it does have tint on the windows, and I would like to keep it. I was told if I register the truck as 10,001 lbs. The truck is only subject to self inspection, not state inspection, and no CDL or other special license is required.

Is this true? If so, does anyone know where I can get the DMV info? Also, does this increase insurance and/or registration fees.

Thanks.

Just watch out because you might save the tint but subject yourself to higher fees because of registering it in a higher weight catagory.

i wish i could help with your answer but im only a licensed state inspector for New Hampshire. although i know in NH if you register a vehicle over 8,500 pounds it doesnt have to go through emissions testing. NJ could be the same but im not sure
