Onward with the issue, it seems to be more of an issue today and particularly with right at start-up after sitting for a while acts like it wants to die and has a heavy lope...

Along with this, about three days before hand I've been getting a howl out of the intake at idle and its intermittent...

It's going in Monday to get it diagnosed but I'd like to know what I'm going to be set back cash wise...

You know better than to ask "Why's my CEL on" so I'll just guess for the heck of it anyway-

EVAP system component failure causing an intermittent vacuum leak. Parts about $130 from Ford.

But I just pulled that out of nowhere...and I'm probably wrong.

ISSUE:
After a 1-4 hour engine soak time, long crank times and/or long crank to start followed by a stall may occur on some vehicles. No further stalling or rough idle will occur after the engine is running. The long crank and/or stall may be due to the Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve sticking.

ACTION:
Replace the IAC Valve with a revised IAC Valve if no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are present. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Perform normal diagnostics and correct any DTCs as required by referring to the appropriate year Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Service Manual.
If no codes are present, replace the IAC Valve by referring to the appropriate model/year Service Manual, Section 03-14. Refer to the following Idle Air Control Valve Application Chart for proper IAC usage.

Some people say not to bother cleaning the IAC because it's only a short-term fix. I've cleaned mine twice in the last three years- once because it was sticking enough not to idle when cold, and once just for preventative maintenance.

I've never pulled one off a 4.0, but I'm told the 2.3 is the toughest Ranger engine (which would include the 4.0) to get to it on, and it's more nuisance than actually hard. I just blasted mine with TB cleaner.
