Switch Wiring

Hey all, When i first bought my truck, the last owner bought the lower lightning valance, fog lamps and brackets straight from ford, that later became just pieces sitting in the mud.

Well he has the ford factory switch for the lights, and with me hopefully getting my light bar and two off road lights, id like to wire them to this switch. (Pictures below).

It has the three prongs as you can see, but it looks like a simple connector plugs into that. So whats the chances of my truck having that connecter in behind the dash?

Also it looks like this whole panel snaps into place, what do i have to do to get that other panel with no switch out so i can put this one into place?

Thanks for the help, hopefully i can just get this wired up and into place so im ready for when the bar and lights come in.

Hey from my "professional experience" you are gonna have to cut the plastic out of your dash in order to install that switch and BE CAREFUL!! When I went to install my 4x4 switch into a dash piece that didn't have the cutout for the 4x4 I messed it up bad LOL... so take your time and use a Dremel!!

3 prongs: 1 is switch power, 1 indicator-light power, and 1 is ground.

I've got a set of small power/ground clamps -- Use something like this to put power to one and ground to another, and switch them around until the indicator light lights up. My guess is that the two side prongs are hot and ground and the center bottom is the indicator light power. That's just a guess.

Almost, the indicator should light up when power flows through, the ground is to let it light up. The two sides should have 12v in to the switch, and 12v out to the lights/relay. I would grab a DVOM to test connection rather than actual power, unless you like to blow things up....Check resistance across the terminals to each other with switch off to find an open, then switch it on to find the connection. It won't matter which side is in and which is out.

+1

If you let the magic smoke out, it won't work anymore, and touching 12v power to terminals trying to find out what's what, is a good way to do that.

I know how to wire the switch, even tho there are no indicators what goes where, my question is, is there a electrical clip behind the dash bezel that leads to some wiring up front?

Where can one of those switches be had?, they look cool.

NPD ??(Possible S.P. the other LMC type cat) Boy if I don't have one front of me I'm lost .

They r like $39 + and go where the dual tank switch go (great for u u got 1 tank) And bronco has rear window. At least thats where I think Lightning put it (GUys? ) But I dont see why u couldn't cut the other side and fit it in.

I want to do a roof console and use these switches (got 3) To controll Running lights etc.

Larry -- there are no spots on the other side that would fit that switch plate that Mike posted...

It's just way too wide to fit over there.

Looks nice there, gonna have to get one when I install some fog lights, better than having a cheap looking toggle switch coming out of my dash.
