shackles

how many of you have shackles that are rotted beyond belif... well im sure i can beat that..

today at work i had a 1995 F150 with a 302 in it.. started liftin it, and u can here BANG, BANG.. the springs in the back are just shot..

so after gettin it in the air, do an oil change and so on, i look at the rear suspension to check.. the drivers side shackle was pretty much non existant.. for parts alone it would cost the guy 250 then add labor.. ur lookin at 500 or so...

truck definetly isnt safe to let it leave, but if we work on it, more craps gunna go wrong.. so my service advisor told me to lower it and bring it outside.. i "crawled under the truck to do the oil change and didnt lift it"

what i thought was worse, this guy is driving this truck like that, and theres a baby seat in it...

My shackels broke and were sittin on the bed of the truck. If you have an older truck/car why are you going to a dealer? Your going to get slamed and you should know it.

Id also like to add, I was workin on a 78 F250 Custom today. Rotted out to hell. Guy had 2x6's stuck inbetween the frame and cab/bed. That was the biggest pile of junk.

Had a guy come into the store about a nasty sound coming from his leaf springs, and some issues with his trailer plug. After checking the trailer plug, I took a look at the leaf. After looking at the leaf, I suggested they not do the trailer run they had been discussing. The shackle had totally broken due to rust, and was rubbing on the bed.... twas a Dodge..

this shackle wasnt broken, it was non existant lol... we dont really try to slam customers at my work.. its there decion and we get quotes on the parts/work for them.. if its an issue where thr car/truck is not safe at all, we wont let it leave due to liability... in this case, they should junk the truck, or have it towed out.. its still sittin in our lot

I replace the shackle all time. As well as leafs . Let the guy decide what to do its out of ur hands. Nice that u take time to check em.

One thing nice about yearly state inspections. Allot of this stuff is caught before like this before to bad or pricey .

And to protect that kid that rides in that seat .

Hey 2 leaf sets ,new shackles , and labor for around $500 . I might visit ur shop..

OK.... I can get complete spring packs for $189 a side new . And just leafs I needed for $20 up depending on sized and shackel/brackets can be had at any auto parts now for round $70 a pc. U bolts $ 22 a set last year . With labor u r right .

Course I get employee discount at the spring works so my actual prices would be less.

Still sound like a good garage to me.
