This is an open thread to anyone just to ask questions about their truck that they may have. Keep em simple tho you know?

Well first what is the Motorcraft part number for an oil filter that would go on a 302 out of a 1994 F150?

Also anyone change diff fluids up front? How did you get your old diff fluid out since theres no drain plug??? Id like to change it all before i get to the dunes again.

If you've go the stock oil cooler, like mine, then the filter is FL-182A. No oil cooler = the bigger FL-1A filter.

Changing front diff fluid -- you'll need to get yourself a suction gun with a small-ish tube on the end, then stick that into the fill hole and suction the fluid out a little at a time. It's impossible to get all the fluid this way but you can get most of it.

Can you pull the whole cover? I did that on the rear and it was super easy.

No, the front doesn't have a cover. The whole chunk unbolts from the axle housing.

You will have to siphon it out. U can separate the housing to drain . But is a pain to clean and apply sealant with the limited clearance.

I just do the siphon thing . But I change mine 1 time a year.

Have a look at your front differential on that new truck you get -- you'll see that the front doesn't have a cover like the rear. The setup is a bit different ;)

Guess it'll make sense when i see it, but I don't know why they wouldn't put a cover/drain on it

I have a few questions as well as a tip.

My max ac comes on but then kicks off intermittently and it's getting anoyying so i keep it on norm....anyone know?

Can aluminum be welded with a MIG?

Something I found out.....my ac compressor locked up internally last weekend so I went to the junkyard today and found an ac compressor for it...from an 04 Taurus..the answer is yes it works and yes everything is the same...just a tip for anyone looking.

You say your Max AC kicks on and off... Are you sure it's not kicking down to the floor vents when the engine is under load (going up hills, etc)? Mine does this and I'm pretty sure it's caused by a vacuum leak.

Aluminum cannot be welded with a MIG, AFAIK.

Chris you are wrong, they do make migs that can weld aluminum but require different gasses and wires. You would be better off TIG weldin it.

Ah crap, well I'm just going by what people have told me in the past. I seem to recall that I wanted to my buddy Tom to help me weld something that was aluminum (he's got a mig) and he told me he couldn't do it. I guess he just didn't have the right supplies :)

To mig weld aluminum, you need aluminum wire, of course. The gas has to be 100% Argon. It's no where near as nice as tig, but it works.

I used to use a wedge on either side to hold it as far out as it would go, then spray in Brake Kleen to kind of wash it a bit. as soon as the major dripping started, I made a vaseline "Dam" along the bottom edges and a clean towel sprayed down with brake kleen to prep the surfaces.
Put a generous amount of sealant on a coffee can lid or other relatively hard, flat, clean disposable surface. Use a putty knife to "cut" small sections of bead, then transfer the bead to the surfaces.
You are right, it is a pain. But if it's been a while, you need to get any filings, etc out of the bottom.
