how to fix a dash support

i swear there was a thread about this a few months ago. if so, please post a link. i searched and couldn't find it.

anyway, hasn't someone dealt with the support that screws to the passenger side fender breaking? can't i just go to ford, get a new bracket for a couple bucks and screw it back together?

sound familiar to anyone?

My '93 has this problem, never got around to fixing it though...

It's finicky. You also need to search from the Root, meaning, "Ford Truck Fanatics" so it searches the entire Forum.

good tip - i did it in this forum assuming that post was in this forum.

i also assumed the "quick search" searched all forums, not just the one you're on.

I'll be checking that out asap... Mine doesn't bounce much, but the bracket sure as heck isn't right. At the very least it has give and is beginning to break.

It's kind of a funny double-angle bracket... I wouldn't trust just a regular angle bracket. The parts for the TSB aren't THAT expensive. I got mine at the dealer for around $20.

Trust me -- it's money WELL spent. Now my dash is silent. Now if only I could get my danged door panels to stop squeaking :headbang:

Most of the time, the squeaks are where the vinyl meets the PVC panels, and in any "beauty buttons" (screw covers). A little silicone spray in the crevices may fix that.
I am sure you have tried this, but making sure your armrest screws, etc are all tight helps, too.
If neither of those helps, you will need to take the panels off, and apply a bead of "Touch N Foam" on the flat areas, (making sure none will get on the door hardware, though) and re-install the panels when the foam is set up enough to not run off but still pliable.

I actually recently removed the driver side door panel and stuffed some seat cushion foam into it, then used brand new christmas tree clips and it's pretty noise free :) I still need to do the passenger side.

called the dealer today to check if they had the part. it has to be special ordered - i have to go in and pre-order and pay for it. takes a few days and is $21.

Had the kick panel off yesterday for my woofer installation so I figured I'd snap a few picks of said bracket. It's kind of hard to see when the dash it screw back into place, but at least you can see the quality of the bracket and how it's riveted to the dash all the way up:

Great pictures, there, Chris!
Seems like I'm already 50 yards away from the house and dirty before I realize I should have brought mine!

Huh? I don't get it...

Oh, you mean your camera?
Yes, my camera.
Even now, I have to park the farthest from the door, when I work on something, it's usually in the grass, out by the tree line.
I was GOING to get my shop this year, but "something" happened.
Anyway, when I go out to work on something, I usually have everything I need... except the camera.
