how long does it take your engine to warm up

seems like my truck has been taking forever to warm up. i don't really know if it's gotten worse or not. could be cooler weather (30 deg), could be nothing at all

keep in mind, my entire drive to work is 6 miles with a max of 40mph.

anyway, takes about 3 miles before the temp finally hits "the middle". it gets into the normal range after a mile or two, but before it rests in the middle it takes almost 3 miles. if it was a thermostat stuck open, my engine would get "too cool" at times, right - it never cools down once it reaches temp.

so, everything sound right and it just seems long to me b/c my drive is short? keep in mind too, yours might warm up quicker, but are you on the highway in 1 mile

you know ive having the same deal. After i switched out my thermostats. (just a swap out) it took about 20 mins to warm up. anywhere from 5 mph to 20. Some areas i was going through water for 5 mins

. . . just my 2 cent's worth: I run a 195* thermostat for the fall / winter season, . . . . . then i run a 180* thermostat for the spring / summer season for out here in the Pacific North West . . :p. . . and this is per say for both my 96' F150 (in sig ) & also for my 96' Ford Explorer XLT . . .
....and to mention, it doesn't take long for warm-up's in the morning's as well as ALWAY's tend have setting's to be in the area just under the half way mark...YelloThumbUp ....

My engine takes a few miles to get to the point where the needle stops moving, it's never really concerned me. You figure it takes some time for the heat from the combustion to radiate through the block and all the fluid; seems normal to me.

On a side note, my temp settles and the needle stops moving around around the end of the N or start of the O in NORMAL, how 'bout you guys?

mine is at the RM, and once it gets there it stays there

i think its been discussed before that the gauges can vary. my old gauges (pre-tach swap) were all a letter or so different than these. seems like some people's sit on N while others are on A

Mine sits like Skan's does, at the N-O , sometimes below that, takes a couple a minutes driving to warm it up.

well i guess i won't worry about it. seems normal i guess - thanks guys

let the thread veer off topic from here:

Sunny and tshirt weather 50 degrees.

Mine runs up to midrange and drops to O. Takes like 4-5 miles .

just to update....

i'm shocked how much of a difference air temperature makes. when i posted this it would be in the 30s or so and take 3 miles to warm up.

now in the 60s and 70s it's warm in about a mile

that is all
