fuel tank selector pushed in/mount broken

sorry for the flood of new posts...i guess i just have a lot to say

anyone had this happen before? the truck i bought has the fuel tank switch pushed back inside the dash. how fixable is that? the PO said he just super-glued it and it lasted over a year.

i was going to look at it from the back when i do a tach swap, but was wondering if anyone had a guess to what i'll find or have to do.

I used rubber cement to remount and it's lasted about 3 years...

My buddy's bronco had this happen for his rear window switch (same mounting place).

If the mount is broken you're in for a job because the screws screw into that black dash piece (yes the very large one).

The screw holes protrude away from the back of that piece like little cylinders. What happened to his is that the top half of those screw cylinders broke off, so the stock screws (which only go halfway down the cylinders) couldn't get enough bite. I just went to the hardware store and got some longer screws (I think I got self tapping screws, I don't recall) and screwed it down til it got enough bite to be solid. Worked great :) Just don't go too long on the screws or you'll pop them through the dash :D

that sounds familiar now that you say it. i assume that's what happened. if anyone has another idea, let me know.

i'll be sure to update the thread when i get back there and see what happened.

I think I may have redrilled a bit and remounted, but had the same thing happen on the 92 at a not so good time... out on the road hauling livestock.

resolved: when i had my dash apart last night, i found a couple screws that would work. they could actually be a little shorter b/c i can still move it a little bit, but at least this way it won't fall back behind the dash. i also put some rubber cement in there for good measure.
