Can not see timing marks with light

I have a 1980 F-150 Ranger Lariat w/ a 351M w/ 81,000 original miles. I want to check my timing but when I point the timing light toward the damper, I cant find a clear view. Any Suggestions?

Can you see the pointer

No. Can not see the pointer. I cleaned the marks on the damper and rubbed some soap stone into the marks. That works great, but I just cant see in a straight line with the timing light to the pointer.

I think I will need to pull the fan shroud and fan off long enough to set the timing. The only thing I can think of in order to see the pointer straight on.

Any possibility of mounting a mirror so that you could see the pointer ? Some mirrors come with magnetic mounts and bendable arms.

I have pointed the timing light such that it focuses on the marks but look at it from other angles.
