6.7 coolant

It takes orange coolant (it is NOT Dex-cool) If you use Dex-cool, engine damage will result. Under prior testing, a 6.7 was tested with Dex-cool, and it destroyed the water pump. The ford orange coolant should also have the VC12 additive added to the engine.

Just wondering why the switch from Premium Gold? How is this stuff different?

Is this a more-or-less instant problem, or one that develops over time due to not having the right admixtures?

I'm thinking of a situation where you're in some small-town store and need coolant- what happens if they don't have the right stuff?

The 6.7 does not require nitrite protection such as what the gold and the green coolant has. In fact, the presence of nitrites in the coolant is evidence of coolant contamination. Remember the cougar/contour? It developed a problem with intake manifold sealing. It was traced to the dexcool coolant causing chemical issues that ate away at the manifold.

Water works well for temporary repairs.

isnt it the chemical make up of the aluminum/steel this engine uses and the way the chemicals in the coolant react... the coolant chemicals almost eat away the water pump internals cause the material its made up of aint it?

Sort of related, what does the 6.7 do for EGR cooling? How many EGRs does it have? I know the pee tank helps with emissions, is it enough to eliminate the need for EGRs and therefor their coolers all together?

There is one EGR cooler but it looks like a monster. Each separate cooling system removes heat from the EGR cooler. Here is a link to the 6.7L Coffee Table Book.

Interesting- GM has had the same issue with many of their own vehicles, and shop peeps point the finger at dexcool.

The cooler, module, and valve are all one unit. The egr cooler has 2 sections for cooling. Both the primary and secondary coolant systems run through the cooler. It has one egr valve, its on the "hot" side of the exhaust flow, so the coking issues will be greatly reduced. BECAUSE of the EGR valve, less amounts of DEF are needed.
