ok everyone..

the stock 302 in my truck has me aching for more still. I've been having a itch to sell it for a mustang.. but i just dont want to..

also the engine has been using and leaking more oil than before, about 1 quart every 1k miles. Also have a coolant leak from the water pump. have a some cold startup noise on the top end of the engine..

Sooooo.....

I will be having an engine built and installed in the next few months.

I will not be doing the work. no time or space to do it.

So this thread is getting me in the planning stages of the parts that are going to be used.

It's going to be a semi performance build..

plan is:

Staying 302 or .030 over to a 306..
Roller Cam block
Cam with somewhere around .480 lift enough to provide some extra power all across the power band..

and staying SD.. im planning MAF in the future just not now..

GT40 heads, ported and polished..

Shorty Headers.

Stock Truck intake no porting or polishing..

fresh bottom end, rings pistons, bearings will see about going Flat Top depending on the camshaft.

Im working on finding a place to do the build as of right now.. have a buddy that does alot of mustang builds that im seeing if he'll do it.

planning on spending 3k or so all together including labor..

Sounds like you want to do exactly what I did. I will try to dig up my thread later. I actually just picked up the long block from the machine shop about an hour ago. Hopefully I'll have it on the engine stand in a couple hours when I clear a spot in the garage.

difference is im going to have them pull the old and install the new as well.. since it is my DD..

I've thought about going back to a 351W.. but i still like the thought of a 5.0..

and it being such a light truck it'll be amazing..

just got off the phone with the buddy of mine..

he'll do it.. just gotta line up EXACTLY what i want and then let him do his magic..

let me just say this... he's amazing with Ford windsors and Modulars.....

i've known him for about 4 or 5 years..

I'm impressed. Seems like you have a good plan and sticking with it and you found someone who looks like they know what they are doing so you can spend more time enjoying the truck.

I like your rig...dont see many like that. What do you think of the combo you have now? Is it what you expected?

Thanks.. Yeah.. I love the combo.. Would be better suited in a mustang buys still awesome..

Need to do a few more things to it like a MAF swap, a better exhaust, and a fuel pressure regulator...

But overall it's awesome. 2300 miles on the engine and its kicking strong.. No noises nothing
