the 262 was a big truck engine. i think it was a one year option in 64. number dummy should be able to tell you. he knows everything.

Those are engineering numbers and the one you posted applies to an original design part.
The fact it has an suffix of AC suggests it had been changed a couple times since the first design.

I beelive this ewngine you speak of as a 223 because since it was designed for a car, a 262 would have a T as the 3rd character and that it would strictly apply to the 262.

Can you look for the date casting numbers on the Intake and head and post them here?

Is there a timing pointer ?

262 I-6 introduced in 1961, used thru 1964. Available in 1961/62 F500/600's, 1963/64 F100/600's.

C3AE-6015-AC is a bare block casting number, not an engineering number.

Casting numbers are found on blocks, cylinder heads, intake manifolds, steering gearboxes (and etc). Cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers since they are foundry marks only.

Engineering numbers can be cross referenced to Ford part numbers since they are not foundry marks.

1960/64 223's and 1961/64 262's look the same, but have different exhaust manifolds, engine blocks, cylinder heads, other internal differences.

223 vs 262: If you want to know what size the engine is, measure the stroke. 223 = 3.60" // 262 = 4.03"

The engine code is the 4th digit of the VIN: B = 262 1V I-6 / J = 223 1V I-6.

Note: J was used in 1965 only for the 240 1V I-6, but this is not the same type of I-6.

223/262's have the intake/exhaust manifolds on the left (drivers) side. 240/300 I-6's have these parts on the right (passenger) side.
