  1. Extra Bolts!

Thought I would follow up on this subject. The issues around water pump bolts turned out to be no issue. I took one of the 4.5" bolts ran it in to the threads until it bottomed out, in each of the six holes, and measured how much of the bolt was still sticking out. I don't for certain...
  2. Extra Bolts!

I just noticed your timing cover photo is upside down. The parts book drawing from the dealer (which was right side up) showed the 4" or 4.25" bolt goes into either 9 or 11. Now I am really confused. More research.
  3. Extra Bolts!

Well, this was useful information! But does not solve my problem. When I took inventory of the water pump bolts I had five 4.5" 5/16" NC bolts and one 4.25" bolt, plus the five shorties. Did not have any 4" bolts. I went to the dealer who printed off for me a very crude drawing out of his...
  4. Extra Bolts!

Hello, I'm looking for some input. I have a 1995 F350 with 460 and EOD, 2wd. I had to replace the water pump. Due to a significant amount of out-of-town work, I took it apart in May and just last night got it back together. Memory might be the real issue, but my problem is, I ended up with...
  5. Free Truck

If you are restoring a '73-'79, could use a spare parts truck, and are in the Kansas City area, contact me. I have a free 1975 F250 SuperCab, 460, C6. Clear title. Very rusty. Has not moved or been started in About 20 years. Bill. (816) 509-0814.
  6. Engine Control Module

Thanks for the help. I will try that, and post the results.
  7. Engine Control Module

1995 E350 Crew Cab, 460, automatic. How do I determine the correct, original number for the engine computer? The local shop I took it to for an engine running issue did fix the issue, but in the process told me the control module had been replaced at some point with an incorrect one. The only...
  8. 460 Engine Misbehaving

Thanks. When the fuel filter and catalytic converter were replaced they did check vacuum and did correct a leak. But, it is good idea to make that check again. I will do that.
  9. 460 Engine Misbehaving

This is a question for all you engine tuners. I have a 1995 F350 with 460 & E40D. Everything is completely stock. It runs OK right after I start it up, and for a few minutes. At some point it begins to miss when I try to accelerate. If I accelerate very slowly it is OK, but if I open the...
  10. Oil Consumption Question

I just typed out a more detailed reply, but the site froze up and lost it!Thanks. All good thoughts to ponder. It does run good, smooth, plenty of power. Mileage dropped from 12 to 7 when the gasket leak started. So, a new plan emerging:1. Pull a few plugs to check condition 2. Change...
  11. Oil Consumption Question

I have not yet pulled any plugs. Reason: Both exhaust manifold gaskets started leaking, which tricked the O2 sensor into asking for more fuel. I didn't think the plugs would look good anyway under those conditions. I just this past weekend got the gaskets changed and in the process found a...
  12. Oil Consumption Question

Well, it holds around 6 or 7 quarts. The lifters started rattling so I took it to Valvoline and they put 3+ quarts back in it. It had only been about 2,000 miles since the oil change. That works out to about a quart in 600 to 700 miles.
  13. Oil Consumption Question

I have a 1995 F350 crew cab with 460 and EO40D. This thing goes through lots and lots of oil and I cannot yet figure out where the oil is going. I bought it in Florida with 112,000 miles and drove it home to Kansas City without using any oil. It now has about 120,000 miles. The valve cover...
  14. Road Wheel Bolt Pattern

    Thanks for the help!
  15. Road Wheel Bolt Pattern

I realize I am in the wrong forum for my 1976 F350, but I think I am in the right forum for this question. I would like to replace my wheels with the newer Ford wheels, but it looks to me like they changed the bolt pattern at some time since 1976. Can someone educate me on the change, new...
  16. Help - 460 Uses LOTS of Oil

Thanks. Not using synthetic oil. Valvoline changed the oil, so I suspect it is a Valvoline conventional oil product.I will try to get around to checking compression this weekend.
  17. Help - 460 Uses LOTS of Oil

You both are probably right right, but I think I have been watching closely for that. If it is guides you can usually see the smoke clearly in the headlights of a car behind when you mash the throttle, or even continually if it is rings, but I see nothing at all day or night. I think bad valve...
  18. Help - 460 Uses LOTS of Oil

Looking for some input. I have a 1995 F350 crew cab with 460 & automatic. I bought it in Florida and drove it home to Missouri, and added a quart of oil. Had the oil changed 2000 miles ago. After about 1,000 miles the lifters started rattling and I added 3 quarts of oil to full. After...
  19. Replacement Bed

I have a 1995 F350, long bed, single rear wheels, dual tanks. I need to replace the bed. Anyone know of a source for a used replacement bed other than checking every salvage yard around?
  20. 1995 F350 Brakes

Two questions for you experts out there. 1. Where can I find instructions and/or an article on converting my rear drum brakes to discs, if that is even possible.2. I tagged this onto another post, but got no comments so will ask it here. Every time I hit the brake pedal, right at the moment...
  21. brake booster diaphram?

I wonder if that is the same sound I hear? Mine is 1995 F350, 460 CI. I hear a quick shshshsh sound just at the moment I hit the break pedal each time. But I thought 7 mpg was normal for this thing. 8 mpg would be great!
  22. Seats Interchange?

Thanks everyone. My last build was a 1976 F250 Supercab. For that truck there were NO options for factory captain's chairs or buckets. I went to a junk yard and roamed around, finally settling on front buckets from a 1976 AMC Pacer. They looked more "trucky" than other car seats. I then did...
  23. Seats Interchange?

Thanks for the information. I am 5-7 and the truck is a crew cab. Maybe that helps.
  24. Seats Interchange?

I have a 1995 F350 with front bench seat, which I want to change out to individual seats. Does anyone know if anything else such as Explorer, Expedition or Excursion, or anything else uses same seat as F-series?
  25. 1995 F350 Automatic Question

I have not read codes yet. I travel a lot and am in Tucson right now, so cannot get to that until Wednesday next week. I will do it. No, it does not feel like something is wrong. Just shifts a lot different than I expected. Really, I was wondering what I should expect when I punch the...
  26. 1995 F350 Automatic Question

I have a "new-to-me" 1995 F350, with 460 & automatic. Some questions: 1. From reading through these threads I think this might be a E40D. How do I confirm?2. The column shift has a pushbutton on the end of it, which seems to do nothing at all. What is it supposed to do? I also have a...
  27. Thermal Fan Clutch Test

Thanks! I appreciate your help. I should have done a little Internet search first. I did a search just after I made the post and found a page with almost the same recommendation, plus a description of how the thermal fan clutch works. I read on that page that the silicon-based oil...
  28. Thermal Fan Clutch Test

I have a 1995 F350 with 460. I had the truck in a repair shop recently and one of the mechanics commented that it looks like my fan clutch is bad. So my question is, How do you test the thermal fan clutch?
  29. Draining Battery

First, I agree with the batter load test, but on the truck itself, pull the ground cable off of the battery, preferrably in the dark and watch for a spark which would indicate that indeed there is a current drain at that time. Then pull all the fuses. If you have and can use a milliampmeter...
  30. Wheel sizes

I have a 1995 F350 with standard steel 16" wheels. I have no interest in replacing with giant-sized tires, but I would like to replace with some version of a Ford factory aluminum wheel that looks better and weighs less. So what are my options? Will the newer model wheels fit? The bolt...
