Sorry for the delayed post, Jen.I'm really sorry to hear about the loss of him. He was a friend, and I've been praying for his speedy journey to the Lord. I'm also praying for you guys and your healing. I'll miss him.Ryan
It's the original Ford OBD, so it's not a standard OBD2 scanning plug. You can buy a specific purposed one for Ford for under $40. Or like mentioned above, buy the plug online and get the phone scanning app. I'd check first to see if the computer can give you any hints.Ryan
For 5 grand, I'd find the nicest V8 that you can find. If you're okay with a regular cab, the quality of truck you can purchase will go up significantly. They don't hold their value like a 4 door, which apparently is made of gold and then plated with gold. They simply don't depreciate like a...
They can be.... but if you want a base model truck, you can get the same "workness" out of it. Probably even better.Buuuuuttt if you want a King Ranch with 6 doors and a 2 foot bed, I'm sure that will come out soon.Ryan
That's exactly how my red truck was configured. It's a good ride.I got a new-used daily driver too. Found a 2006 F150 XLT SuperCrew 4x4 with only 109k miles on it. It has a few quirks because it sat parked for a couple years, but I'm ironing them out as time permits.Ryan
Yeah my 94 has a VSS on the rear differential only, but my memory is that the 92 has one on the transmission (not sure if it has both, or just the transmission one). The VSS along with the TPS provide crucial data to the computer. Additionally make sure the wires are in good condition feeding...
Hop under the truck, on the passenger side of the transmission housing, near the exhaust pipe. You'll see a wiring harness that plugs into the transmission, that controls the solenoid pack. What are the condition of the wires? Often they fray and get exposed to water and heat. You can...
Thanks guys! It was a good day. 31 is pretty anti-climactic. 9 more years until a milestone, pretty insignificant.Having said that, it made for a very relaxing day. Lunch with the family, some daytime margaritas, and a whole lot of hanging out!Ryan
So I'd recommend using the 1990 long block, and put everything else on from the 1997. I'm not an expert on the 460, but from 1990-1997, the tech on the other (smaller) v8's changed, so sensors are in different places and things like that. Swap out all the intakes, valve covers, electronics...
Sometimes the engine warms, and you have to go back and retorque them because they back out on the first try.Check that out and see if anything changes.Ryan
Are you looking for anything in particular, or just a general website you can safely peruse?Jegs and Summit Racing are massive product catalogs. American Muscle is more of an "accessory" website, and has less performance and maintenance parts. It's reputable.Ryan
The winter and salt usually put the last nail into a component's weak spot. Enjoy your new wheel hub.The battery in our car is from 2010, and with these cold snaps has held up. It's a miracle, the thing has been a ticking time bomb for years. But it's hanging on like Betty White.Ryan
I agree, the best guess on this is a shredded/worn wiring harness on the passenger side behind the cat converter shield.Mine has done this in the past, and is currently behaving similarly. That's my next move if I get time to fool with it.Other data sources for this transmission include the...
I missed this thread, but glad you bought the truck. It won't feel like a racecar or anything, but it's a really good motor. It's very torquey and pulls well. The thing is reliable as heck. Two common problems with it are cam phasers (which isn't a terminal issue. It's just annoying...
