Under hood temps bein too hot or fuel line too close to the motor is what causes it. What happens is the fuel gets so hot it boils and turns into a vapor and starves the motor for fuel.
Put new rear springs on the bronco, swapped in a 3.00 pumpkin in the rear axle, pulled the front shaft and changed the speedo gear. Next up is to lift it but that can wait for another weekend.
Pull the axle out along with the carrier and mark the bearing caps wich side ya pulled em out of then get a pry bar and pop the old seals out if they dont come that way put somethin through the other tube and smack em out that way. To put em in get a broom handle and stick it through the axle...
Changed out the rear springs on the bronco next weekend its time for the rear axle. Gonna swap in a 3.00 pumpkin, pull the front shaft and change the speedo gear for milage in the summer then winter the 3.50s will go back in.
Thats just who I was gonna suggest theyre out of Salt Lake and ive bought a couple from em. One was artificial leather thats in my 72 and has held up great for five or six years but is startin to show its age where I slide in and out of the truck. Another I bought that was a cheaper Dura EZ care...
To get one done in the bronco was 195 with a new locking bead but they were able to re use the old gasket its also got the blue tint strip on the top of the glass so that raised the price some.
You talkin in town or highway. I can get almost 11 with mine 400 2bbl 4spd and 31s havent looked at the tag on the diff but id say probly the same gearing as well.
To add to Bens post 3.5" means its either a 352 or 360 3.75" means 390, 406, 427 and 3.98" means its either a 410 or 428. To verify which exact one it is youd have to pop a head off and measure the bore but thatll give ya a ball park idea.
