    Temperature gauge erratic

Thanks for the help! I’ll put leak down test on my list. If I do have carbon build up, are there any methods to clear it out besides rebuild?

    Temperature gauge erratic

    Finally finished it up and I redid #5 because it was the first one and I didn’t really know what I was doing: 5: 148 psi6: 145 psi7: 145 psi8: 145 psi1: 135 psi2: 148 psi3: 145 psi4: 147 psiI think it’s pretty good! From what I’ve looked up, it’s within spec and within 10% of...

    Temperature gauge erratic

I started the compression test but only made it through 6 until I lost light (and my patience after plug #2). I know you’re supposed to do them all at once to be consistent, but it didn’t happen. Also I am questioning a few things: I can’t get my engine to operating temp (due to the origin of...

Well didn't really get any flapping...and the bill definitely didn't get sucked in.Compression test this weekend!

    Temperature gauge erratic

I forgot about the dollar test, Good idea! I'll try that tomorrow.I didn't realize the thermostat had to be open for the heads to get involved, thank you for clarifying that.

    Temperature gauge erratic

I only ran it for a few minutes until I felt the coolant start to warm up. I'll grab one of those exhaust testers also, thanks!

    Temperature gauge erratic

I did the test again plugging the overflow outlet. The balloon slightly fills with air, but not enough to stand up on its own.I will post the compression test results later this week. Thanks for the help!

    Temperature gauge erratic

The balloon did NOT fill up. Did I need to do anything else with the overflow tube or anything for this test to work? Otherwise, good news right??I’ll still run the compression test when I get a chance.

    Temperature gauge erratic

I’ll do the balloon check tomorrow and grab the compression tester from my buddy. Blown head gasket doesn’t sound fun. Thanks for the help guys!

    Temperature gauge erratic

Although I’m still curious which color sensor I would need, I don’t think that’s my issue anymore… now my gauge is reading low all the time (not even to “N”) and never gets to operating temperature. My heater appears to work like usual, but when I started the truck from cold with the radiator...

    Shakey idle

I did plot the TPS with my scanner and it looked good. Where/what is the throttle pin? I was only aware of the non-variable TPS sensor and the idle screw that everyone usually says not to mess with. Is there something else?

    Temperature gauge erratic

1995 f150 5.8 263kHey guys! My temp gauge started doing something weird: started up normal and went mid until thermostat opened and then decreased and was steady on the “O” like it usually does but while driving it would randomly go super low and then back to “O” repeatedly. So I’m thinking...

    Shakey idle

Thanks Kaajot! Dusty had me measure some Volts before also, but nothing seemed abnormal. With nothing else making sense, I cleaned the throttle body. I definitely ignored that “do not clean” sticker, but I did use throttle body cleaner for coated throttle plates. FIXED!!!There is still a...

    Shakey idle

1995 f150 5.8 263kMy truck shakes at idle and it worsens the longer I am sitting there. Symptoms are in park or drive and any engine temperature. KOEO/KOER: 111Sensor tests with engine at temp: Elect pressure Ctrl: 5psi/9.88V Engine coolant temp:181F/0.71V Pulse width 1&2: 4.22/4.3ms HO2S...

    Weak cylinder/injector #7

Thanks Dusty! I’m going to replace and start a new thread summarizing everything. My issue has completely changed from the title of this thread: weak cylinder/injector #7 was resolved with new plugs and wires.

    Weak cylinder/injector #7

Can someone explain why I need a mod kit to put a stock motorcraft DPFE sensor on my truck? I'm very confused. Did motorcraft change their design after the orignal sensor?

    Weak cylinder/injector #7

New coil is in, she still shakes. So moving down my list of possibilities...I checked the voltage on my DPFE #1 circuit and I'm getting 0.68V at (cold) idle and 0.9V at 4.5 inHg when the engine stalls. Does the truck need to be warmed up to run this test?If I follow the chart at...

I’ll check coil ground and if that does nothing, I’ll order a new coil.I did run seafoam through, no improvements. Thanks!

The coil is 5 years old, but you know these new parts! The battery is reading 14.95V +/- .02V with engine on. Is there a better way to test it or should I just take it to NAPA for a bench test?

    Weak cylinder/injector #7

So still no improvements, but I did notice something else that might help: when I first start my truck, or first come to a stop at a light, the truck idles ok for about 10-15secs. After that it starts shaking and that continues to worsen the longer I sit. There is also heavy pinging/tapping...

    Weak cylinder/injector #7

Well that’s some good news! I guess I need a canister kit to go through the rails, so I’m starting with a tank one and will try to find a kit. Thanks!

    Weak cylinder/injector #7

No gas smell on FPR vacuum line, and it increases by 10psi when I pull it.IAC increased from 46 to 52% when I cranked the AC.I unplugged the MAF and it ran about the same with the additional trait of idle hunting. MAF was reading 1.2V with fuel pulse width 1&2 at 4.5ms.
  24. fordgirl

    Weak cylinder/injector #7

I cleaned the IAC without any improvements. I ran the truck with it unplugged and the truck ran slightly worse. IAC is showing 30-40% at idle and operating temp, is that high?Throttle shaft/cable looks pretty worn, but the plates look ok.I think next up I'll try the fuel injector cleaner...

    Weak cylinder/injector #7

Thanks dusty, I'm going to check a few more things today.Do you have a recommendation for the fuel injector cleaner through the fuel rail? I'm only seeing gas tank ones or full kits.

    Weak cylinder/injector #7

It is very possible I am chasing my tail.My Genisys scanner says that both O2 sensors are reading rich.I am also thinking about taking apart and cleaning the throttle body.

    Weak cylinder/injector #7

So new check valve is in, no more hissing, but still a rough idle. I did the carb cleaner test and couldn't get increased idle out of any spot I sprayed. Air filter is good. I used a stethoscope to listen to 5 of the fuel injectors I could reach and they all are clicking away, so I guess not...

    Weak cylinder/injector #7

So. much. Oil. Sludge. The PCV valve slipped right out of the elbow hose, wasn't even being held in there. I then barely moved the elbow hose and the elbow connector popped right out of the engine. Took everything out and cleaned it. The valve appears to be an aftermarket (has a plugged port)...

    Weak cylinder/injector #7

Dusty you are too good! I thought they were unrelated and I’m kind of all over the place. However, I did hear a hiss about a week ago, but it’s not always there. I ran the tests from Big Dog https://youtu.be/QaUPC8TjzWA and the only issue I really found was that the check valve slightly allowed...

I got sidetracked with shock bolts. I just checked the ECT sensor and it checked good following the chart from the link above.
