Wait...pump in frame too? Test port? ug. Sounds like I was a bit out of my depth anyway. Like I said initially, 80's American, and OBD-I, is largely a mystery to me. But this wasn't the car to learn on IMO. Too many hands had already been on it it seems. Deleting stuff.
Hopefully...
Not sure what you mean by "test plug" but it did have a schrader valve in the fuel rail right next to the distributor. So I was able to screw in my fuel pressure gauge to it and see the reading. Never came off of zero.:rotz:
Well, I decided to pass on the car. I had a go at it today. Once I got the car raised up on jack stands and was able to get a better look underneath I was able to see some things I wasn't real happy with. The AIR Pump had already been deleted with the pipes running to the cats already cut and...
Neato! Definitely better than going into it blind.
When I first got my truck in 2006 it had been converted and running strictly on propane since 1982. The farm/seller I got it from really had no recollection of the status of the fuel in the tanks so I did drop those and clean them out before I...
Thanks for that. I've perused Amazon listings for those in the past but there's soooo many freakin options and the prices are all over the map I sort of got brain freeze with it. Impossible to tell what's good and what's not. If that one works for you though I'll grab one too. Especially for...
:rofl: yes exactly right. Luxury feature on those I guess. To be able to see everywhere except the actual lane next to you. And of course turning your head to look was just about as helpful thanks to the porthole windows. I found the safest way to change lanes in that car was to goose...
Ya I learned to drive and got my license with my dad's a 78 Mark V 460. Nothing like over 6ft of hood and tiny side view mirrors for the parallel parking test.
It's EFI. Been down the TBFI road in the past with a Mitsubishi Starion. Cool car, but not eager to revisit TBFI so was pleased to see the EFI when he raised the hood. Thank you again sir. It's gonna be a few days before I get the chance to get back at the car but I'll keep you informed...
Huh! I didn't know it was actually an acronym! So they used the letters of air in an air pump to describe an air pump's function in fancy terms without actually changing the name. Brilliant. And I shall look for Power Lube. Sounds legit.Good advice about the coolant leaking at the intake...
Lol ok cool I get it- "Air pump". I'll keep it on.
Is it at least drive-able without the air pump functioning for a while? I assume it is since the belt for it is already off; but I may need to get the car out of their driveway and back to my place before I can work on the pump. RockAuto...
So... a co-worker, knowing I'm something of a car guy, has offered me his family's old hand-me-down 1987 Grand Marquis (5.0 mpi, 59k miles) for pretty much scrap value. The problem? It hasn't run in 10 yrs. I asked why he parked it as I was looking it over he pointed at the starter relay and...
So, the driver side door on my '78 has some up and down play and I'm always having to close it pretty hard to get it to fully latch. Looks like the pin holes are worn a bit.
I'm thinking about getting some new hinges off of LMC. I'm wondering how difficult it's gonna be to do this job though...
The gauge cluster on these gen 6 trucks is the worst thing about them. The plastic on those things turns to potato chips as it ages. I went through three of them in the course of about 6 yrs. One of them I hit a bump and it literally fell out of the dash in pieces.
Eventually I gave up and...
I had my seatbelt redone a couple years ago. Used these guys:https://www.safetyrestore.com/Just take it off, send it to em and they send it back with new webbing and all the mechanicals cleaned up and smooth.Of course if you don't care about color matching you could probably just grab one...
Ya...If I were just flushing the system and not replacing any parts I likely wouldn't bother to raise the wheels; but since I'm replacing the pump and both the lines I know there's gonna be a fair amount of air in the system initially and in my limited experience anyway, getting true full lock...
I wanna get a new jack for the truck. I'm replacing the power steering pump in a couple days and would like to get the front wheels off the ground so I can bleed the ps system.I rarely ever find the need to raise the truck up so I'm not really interested in some sort of giant xtra heavy duty...
Hey thanks for the tip. Looked at their website and it's full of stuff I could eventually use; prices aren't terrible either.I was under the truck today and shook stuff around and one of the stabilizer bar end links is loose. Will probably start with refurbishing the bar's components first.
So, I feel like as of late the truck has been making some groaning and occasional popping noises from the front end whenever I go over speed bumps or take a turn on an incline. Still tracks straight and no odd vibrations going on; but given that I don't think the front end has ever really...
A work buddy of mine bought a 66 Nova SS as a project car. The interior had been gutted by fire, and the windshield was busted out of it; but damned if he didn't come driving into work sittin' on an upturned pickle bucket, with his McDonalds breakfast propped on the hood in front of him.
The...
Right!? Around here, parts are much more likely to disappear off the truck, than appear for the truck.Classy move w/ the whiskey too. I like stories about give and take and give, rather than just give and take.
Afraid you're outvoted, miotti. Plus, I just can't ignore the price diff. Edelbrocks ain't cheap.Still, this is gonna be for the propane setup we discussed in the other thread, miottimouse. I found a sweeet 750 Holley 4150 throttle plate - and it should be a perfect fit for the Weiand...
smiliepeeloutHaha! Sweetness.
Not for this Ford. It's too much of a creampuff to turn hotrod....I do have my eye on a 58 Edsel Corsair though...if I wind up getting it, I may just turn it into something worthy of an intake like that, just to be ironic.Thx for the stats, DNFXDLI. I...
Well, good to see I'm on the right track w/ the Weiand (misspelled in the original post. my bad).Any takers on the other questions? ...and for the torque specs, I'm referencing the torque for the manifold bolts, not engine torque- in case that wasn't obvious.
So while I've got the carb off the ol' 460, I decided to just go ahead and upgrade the intake manifold. The original one has 30 yrs of farm soil and fertilizer baked onto it like clay. So I'd say it's time to say bye-bye.I'm leaning toward the Weiland 8012, as it seems to have some good...
Well, the official price in my neighborhood is $1.87 /gallon of lpg (recently up from $1.65). But the real price is closer to $2.25 or so, once they add in the service charges and stuff. Just had 12 gals put in today and the total was $31&change. Still about a dollar less than the gasoline...
Sweet. Just what I needed to know! And to think, I had just about given up on this post.Yah, I've been loving the propane so far. This is the strongest, most consistent, and smoothest running all-original 460 I've ever encountered, and I have no doubt it's because of the conversion.
I know...
Hiya peeps! Been a while since I've been on the boards. ...busy w/ last semester of college and all...Anyway, as a reminder, my ol' 78 F250 (460cid) has been set up for dual-fuel gasoline/propane ever since the early 80's. However, its been run on a strict diet of just propane ever since...
I went through the engine bay and replaced all the old vacuum lines with nice new tubing (left over from when I did my car).No problems other than one of the two vac connectors broke off of the thing in the picture. Went ahead and just T 'd the lines that plugged into it together.Truck's...
